It’s still nearly two months away, but Angelina Jolie is very excited about Halloween. “I’m going to really go for it this year,” says the actress-director, 42. “I’m going to have a crazy Halloween party and see if I can rock the neighborhood.” As she sits down for her first interview with People since 2015, Jolie is joyful when she talks about everyday life with her six children—Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and Knox and Vivienne, 9—but also somber and emotional at times as she reflects on how much their lives have changed over the past year. On Sept. 19, 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after 12 years as a couple following an altercation on a private plane between Pitt, 53, and Maddox. “I haven’t worked for over a year now because [my children] needed me home,” Jolie says. She won’t talk about specifics of the divorce—she and Pitt agreed in January to settle the case privately, and negotiations are ongoing. But it’s clear that the wounds from the acrimonious split are still fresh, and that rumors of a reconciliation are improbable. Now the superstar is back in the spotlight
