The return of India Pale Ale, years after it left Indian shores

Though India Pale Ale (IPA) left Indian shores with the British, a bunch of pioneers is bringing it back home, together with another colonial favourite the stout porter.

Back in the 1700s, London's George Hodgson was inspired by England's October ales to create a pale ale that would survive the weeks long trip to India without ending up sour. A heavy load of hops would protect it from bacterial infection and high alcohol
