PRO INSIGHT MICRO WORLD
We tend to think of the Victorian era as drab and austere. This is far from true, however, and the art of the era was bright and vibrant. This quest for colour was also evident in the exhibitions of microscopical specimens of the time. Specimens were collected for their intrinsic beauty as well as out of scientific interest.
The division between art and science we are used to today was not a factor for the Victorians: they were open to viewing scientific objects as works of art. Many of the wealthy gentlemen of the time owned a microscope, and would show off
