Opinion: Lab animal regulations can be simplified without weakening welfare standards

The National Institutes of Health recently began seeking public input on revising laboratory animal research policies and regulations, a review mandated by the 21st Century Cures Act.

In coordination with the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture, the agency is looking for ways to reduce the administrative burden researchers face, while protecting lab animals and maintaining the integrity of research results.
