‘Cannabis Saved Our Daughter’

Happy and Healthy “Not a week goes by,” says Jaclyn (with Cecilia and Jim on Oct. 18), “without some parent reaching out to ask about what we did.”

It was July 2014, and Jaclyn von Harz and her husband, Jim, knew their 3-year-old daughter Cecilia didn’t have much time—or fight—left in her tiny body. Cecilia had been diagnosed with kidney cancer more than a year earlier and had already undergone surgery to remove a 2-lb. tumor from her right kidney, as well as months of grueling chemotherapy. “She was just so emaciated,” recalls Jim, 37, a Los Angeles firefighter. “She’d lost all her hair, lost all her weight. There just wasn’t much of her left.” But now the cancer had returned, spreading throughout her tiny right lung, and doctors told the family that Cecilia needed even more aggressive chemotherapy to survive.
