MYALL CREEK AND BEYOND

This year marks the 180th anniversary of the horrific massacre of at least 28 Aboriginal people by colonial settlers on the banks of Myall Creek near Bingara in north-western NSW. While it was no means the first or the last acts of frontier violence, the subsequent sentencing and hanging of seven British subjects for the murder of the Wirrayaraay people did mark the first time white men were brought to justice for their actions.
