THE BULB WITH LAYERS

We moved to our garden in Barrington in northwest Tasmania in winter. Despite the season, the large vegie patch still had plenty to harvest, but I was keen to grow vegetables I hadn’t had the space for before. So in went several rows of purple onions.

Onions are considered a long crop as it can take six to eight months before the bulb is ready to harvest. The weeks ticked by and I started to pull the onions. They were delicious and I was looking forward to harvesting the rest
