Aussie multi-culti comedy has been a chancy genre so far, ranging from the sentimentality of the 1966 migrant movie They’re a Weird Mob to the rambunctious vulgarity of TV’s Fat Pizza and its ilk. That’s part of the reason Ali’s Wedding is such a nice surprise; in fact, it just might be the funniest, sweetest rom-com you’ll see all year.
