Faecal transplantation, or microbiome restorative therapy, is an emerging treatment used to manage inflammatory bowel disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, dysbiosis, immune-mediated diseases, diabetes and obesity. The treatment itself is not really new. It was used to treat gastrointestinal disease in Chinese medicine in the 4th century. In veterinary medicine it has been used for many years to treat cattle and sheep.
