ON TEST HERMES 4-STAGE CDI

Introduction

The ‘Hermes’ four-stage CDI is designed to work with the two-pin IDM manufacture based ignitions that are sold in various versions and configurations by Varitronic, Vespatronic, Casatronic, Parmakit, Malossi, Polini, Pinasco etc. This plug and play item will work with both Lambretta and Vespa, or others fitted with these aftermarket two-pin variable ignition systems that have the four-pole IDM stator plate. The Hermes CDI is simple to fit, just swap it over with the original and carry out a strobe check of the ignition timing. This is easily done when the four-way 0, 1, 2, 3 marked Map switch at the base of the CDI unit is set to the Map-0 position, which is a static straight line. So regardless of rpm won’t move the timing around, although on some ignition systems I see the timing marks a little lazy/unstable at very low tickover, so it’s worth picking revs up off tickover to check the timing marks
