Audit office to investigate East Coast ‘bailout’ deal

THE decision by Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling to terminate the Stagecoach/ Virgin-operated East Coast franchise three years early in 2020 will be investigated by the National Audit Office (NAO).

Announcing its decision, the NAO – which is the Government’s spending watchdog – will look at the DfT’s management of the franchise to date
