Raw food

Going raw has become popular following an increased trend in veganism and plant-based diets. The raw food diet idea is not a new one.

For example, Maximilian Bircher-Benner (1867-1939), a well-known and influential Swiss physician, theorised that the more raw food humans ate, the more their health would benefit. It was he that made muesli popular.

Raw food diet devotees still believe that consuming raw food is the key to vibrant health and tout its benefits such as weight loss and healthier skin, hair and nails. However, science on the subject remains scanty and current evidence suggests that a wholly raw diet may, in fact, have negative consequences.
