Firstly, let’s establish that there are two hypothetical scenarios which lead us to believe that a faster cadence is preferable. One is related to running speed, where we assume that the more steps we take in a given time, the faster we can run.

The other suggests that if you take more frequent steps, you limit impact forces and so reduce the risk of incurring injuries.
