David Robert Hill was born in North London, but he now lives and works at his home studio at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

He completed a four year diploma course at The Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, and was awarded a Fine Arts Diploma in painting, drawing and design in 1972.
