THE ISLAND TIME FORGOT

Nihiwatu stretches along the southern coast of West Sumba, a white-sand arc of 2.5 kilometres. This beach is home to a sacred stone where animist priests, known as rato, divine the success of the harvest, and ikat-wearing farmers watch over docile buffalo.
