Liberties vs security

Political will and judicial reforms can help address the concerns of both the security forces and civil society.

All civil liberties in India flow from the Constitution. In particular, Articles 14, 19, 21 and 25 of the Constitution lay down the Fundamental Rights of the citizens and these have been zealously guarded by the courts.

When India got her independence in the backdrop of partition, integration of the princely states, the conflict over Kashmir, and the separatist movement in Nagaland, the state was quite unprepared without the necessary institutions and trained man­power to handle such a situation.
