What’s better, a powerful bike or one that you can fix yourself?

As my regular readers will know, I do what bike maintenance I can at home in our underground parking garage. It is not a great place to work on a bike. I am prohibited from leaving a partially disassembled motorcycle down there and there is no electrical outlet nearby and not much light.
