GROUND-BREAKER!
There are few model designations that have defined modern motorcycle history quite as radically as that of the Suzuki GSX-R and, more specifically, the GSX-R750.
The first of the breed was unleashed way back in 1985 after setting tongues wagging at the 1984 Cologne Motorcycle Show. Entering the production sports bike arena was pretty much dominated at the time by things like the Kawasaki GPz750 and Honda VF750, so it’s not hard to see why the GSX-R750F gained almost instant cult hero status. After all, the GPz tipped the scales at 241kg and the VF a rather more svelte, but still relatively hefty 218kg. In that context, the Gixxer’s dry weight of 176kg was simply unheard of. Toss in the 100hp, air/oil-cooled engine and everything else looked old, staid and unattractive to the dedicated sportsbike market. Yes, the world changed that day my friend.
In short, Mother Suzuki had given birth to a prodigy, one that has been nurtured since to remain a mainstay for the brand. From that day to this, the GSX-R brand has matured and been improved to enjoy universal recognition.
