FIRST STATION IN ORBIT

The Americans dominated the media with their series of landings on the Moon when, in April 1971, the Soviets announced a less attractive feat. They had placed in orbit the Salyut 1, an orbital station of 19 tons and a living space of 90 cubic meters. The ship faced various problems and fell back on earth in October of the same year. It was the first of a series of stations intended for long stays in space.

AN ITALIAN TRAINER

The FAB was begging to negotiate the acquisition of its first supersonic fighters, but had problems with the aging of its AT-33 conversion planes. The solution found was licensing the Aermacchi MB-326 trainer to be assembled by Embraer, which was already manufacturing the Bandeirante. Nearly 180 units were made in Brazil with the name of EMB-112 Xavante, the first jet aircraft to be series manufactured in the country.
