- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the 3rd book in the Jack Reacher series. This was a real page turner my favorite kind of book. I was hooked from the first page to the last page. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked it. It was great!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT, HE TOPPED THE LAST BOOK! I was GLUED to my chair with this one, but I love everything he writes. Now I must read the next book to see what Jack is up to next!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/54.5 Stars. Another great read in the series and showing another side to Jack Reacher.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another great Jack Reacher book. As with the others (at least the ones I've read), you do not have to have read them in chronological order, which is nice. Lee Child does a great job introducing you to Reacher, whether you've read all or none of the other books. This one also seems far less violent than the others I've read, which is a nice change of pace. Sometimes Reacher seems to do things for the shear violence of it; this isn't the case with "Tripwire.".Here, Reacher is located by a private investigator, who's been hired by someone Jack doesn't seem to know. But when two other big beefy guys come sniffing around, then the PI is found dead, Reacher feels he's got to figure out who's looking for him and why.Meanwhile, Victor Hobie, a severely burned Vietnam vet, is busy scamming a business man out of his fortune in New York City."Tripwire" was written in 1999 and much of it takes place in the World Trade Center. Also, because it was written then, it's sometimes hard to recall how relatively new the Internet still was, so some of the investigative techniques may seem a little archaic. But that's the fault of the reader (me) and not Child.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoyable by the numbers Jack Reacher novel.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I was apprehensive about starting to read Lee Child when I did and this book, being the third in order and third I've read, didn't help my confidence. I enjoyed the first two a bit more as they contained less machismo-driven color and more story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5JAck Reacher finds himself caught up in the investigation of a star helicopter pilot missing in action in Vietnam and assumed dead. The boy's parents, in grief for thirty years, send a PI to find Reacher, only to have the PI killed hours after meeting with Reacher.
This is the third in the Jack Reacher series. I enjoyed this book as I have all of them. If you want to escape inr=to a good story for a while and get absorbed in a thrilling adventure, start reading the Jack Reacher series. Well written and lots of fun. It's fun to watch for when Lee Child's reveals his English background; how many American's refer to their cell phones as "mobiles" or the windshiels of their cars as a "windscreen". - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. This is actually the 5th Reacher book I've read. I kinda wish I'd read this without knowing that there were so many more after this because one of the great features of this book is Reacher's identity crisis -- wondering if he should stop drifting and settle down and wondering if he's lost his edge. It's got a fantastic climax scene, too. My only teeny tiny complaint is that Child leaves a few untied ends. I kinda wish he'd explained what happens to a few of the other characters at the end of the book. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say anymore than that. Can't wait to read the next one!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I am always interested in reading how different people rate the same book so differently. This was NOT my favorite in the series. I just finished it in order to move on to the next one. I just didn't feel any connection to any of the characters. I will read the next one but not just right now.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5i loved this book. it's part of a character named reacher. i don't remember reading any lee child books but i loved the style of writing... it agreed so much with my head and way of thinking, ok not agreed???? flowed with. it kept me interested and all though i thought i knew the "one" it still made me get to the end before telling me. i really liked how the last scene came together. it was a nice book to read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good book had a couple twists that you may not see coming.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Never heard reacher whine. Was a bit out of character
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a pretty good Reacher book. I enjoyed it, but it suffers from the same flaw as some other Reacher books; you'll figure it out long before the characters do. I find that frustrating, but the its worth a read if you like these.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story, writing, and flow.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Beautifully economical, tautly efficient and fast moving, both prose and storytelling.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love Jack Reacher!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jack Reacher is a dangerous character and a sweetheart. This is my second book by Lee Child and it was a real thrill ride. I loved the action and suspense...and the characters are exceptionally bad-ass.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So much better to read Reacher rather than see puny Tom Cruise play him
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story, writing, and flow. Just as compelling, interesting and as much of a page turner as books one and two. Like the first two, a fun story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jack Reacher is minding his own business living his simple life in Key West when a private detective comes looking for him. Before he could even find out why, the private detective was murdered. Reacher opened a major bucket of worms when he got to looking into why. Lee Child writes one of the tightest mysteries in print today. This is his third and possibly his best. His characters are really interesting, his plots are credible, fast and crisp. I sure hope he's hard at work on number 4.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This has all the elements of what should be an exciting and enthralling book, yet when contrasted with the 5 prior books (by chronology) it is instead rather dull. Once again Reacher stumbles into a situation through no fault of his own, once again he hooks up with the main female character of the story and once again said woman he's interested in is taken hostage. The idea behind the story is reasonably novel, but the presentation and plot really just let things down, it left me feeling rather bored just plodding away waiting to see if things turned out as expected and for the most part they did. The Chester Stone subplot helped maintain interest a little but overall it just felt like a formulatic rehash of where the Reacher character has been before.I guess at least he has a house now, so maybe the cliched drifter aspect will evolve to something more now.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Jack "No Middle Name" Reacher is back. This time as a Key West pool digger. He digs polls by hand, as unlikely as that sounds, and enjoys his anonymity and unfettered lifestyle. Physical labor and an on again-off again girlfriend agree with him until one day the peace is shattered. A strange private investigator all the way from New York comes nosing around, asking questions about Jack. The plot thickens when this same PI is found murdered only hours after snooping into Jack's life. By now, if you read the other books in the series, you know Jack isn't one to shrug and turn back to his daily routine. Compelled to figure out who has been asking about him and why (never mind who killed the private investigator), Jack makes his way back to New York and into a past he thought he had put behind him. Tripwire takes Jack back to Vietnam and old war memories resurface. He visiting the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command center in Hawaii looking for answers. Of course he isn't alone. Along for the ride is his former command officer's daughter because someone wants her dead...
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Story was decent, and the ending picked up and made it worth it. I would give it more of a 3 1/2 star rating than a 3. The one thing I did not like was the book seemed to drag. When I started hearing the Jack Reacher series on audiobook I noticed that the author provided a lot of detail. Normally that is great but sometimes it may be too much. In the first couple of books before Tripwire it hit me as a slight annoyance, but in this story and just gave me the sense of rambling. Almost like some one writing a college paper and adding some extra words as fluff to make the needed minimum words needed. I grant you that it may be a difference in style from other authors I enjoy like Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, or Ben Coes, so I will continue on and go on to the next book in this series. Overall I would still recommend because there is enough in the book to make it worth while, but definitely the weakest of the first three books I have listen to in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This the the third book that I have read from lee child.I really enjoyed it and prefer it to the first two.I just felt like was not as drawn out as the second.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is the third in the Jack Reacher series and the third that I've read, in order. I'm afraid it is also going to be my last. The first two were entertaining. This one was as well, but it just didn't work for me otherwise. There were too many improbabilities. A mid-20s guy lusting after a 15-year-old was just creepy and smacked of pedophilia. The romance later in the story did not feel romantic. And Jack Reacher seemed more a caricature than a believable character, and one who gave off chauvinistic vibes at that.I'm sure that these negatives for me will not bother some other readers, but as for me, I'm moving on.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoyable by the numbers Jack Reacher novel.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Read enough of these now to say tripwire is one of the best reacher stories.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5There's a moment when suddenly Jack doesn't seem like Jack anymore - he's actually fallible? But then it is like the author scoffs and says, "heck no! Jack is practically a superhero - like Superman, he can even stop bullets!" There are some hints of torture that verge on being too much, but the novel never slips into gratuitous violence and never loses sight of the human side of the characters.
