About this audiobook

Set amid the austere beauty of the North Carolina coast, Nicholas Sparks tells the story of Travis Parker, a small-town veterinarian who's perfectly content with the active and exciting life he leads. Since he uses his spare time bungee jumping and swimming with the dolphins, he can't shake the belief that a woman would simply slow him down. That is, until Gabby Holland enters his life.

Gabby, Travis's new neighbor, is in love with her boyfriend of three years, and wants nothing more than to start planning the wedding she's always dreamed about. However, there is a story within a story and the connection between Travis and Gabby is just a beginning. As their tale unfolds, their relationship becomes something different--with much higher stakes. With echoes of THE NOTE BOOK abound, listeners everywhere will fall in love.

I was actually very surprised by this book. Normally Nicholas Sparks books puss me off with their endings but this one actually had a HEA and I loved it. It was a very quick read and I'm excited to now see the movie.

It was an OK love story. I found the heroine the kind of person who annoyed me. The heroine is supposed to be so independent and modern and yet she strikes me as a woman right out of the 50s in her values and attitudes towards relationships. Then the ending just fell short for me. Definitely would not recommend this at all. Wondering who are the 223 people who gave it a 5.

Choices--we make them everyday. Some small, some more important. I think the choice referred to in the title is how far would you go for love?I don't agree with all the choices made in this book. SPOILER ALERT!!!! There may be some spoilers in the review below:Gabby supposedly is in a "committed" relationship with Kevin, though she seems to have given up more than he has for the relationship. She was willing to move to a new area for Kevin. In return, Kevin seems to have strung her along without proposing marriage (though it does seem that the two are intimate despite not being married). We don't really get to know Kevin much. He's away at the time Gabby meets Travis so we only hear of him through Gabby's thoughts and a few phone calls. Despite this "commitment", Gabby chooses to place herself in situations with Travis that result in the two of them having extramarital sex numerous times while her status with Kevin is still unresolved. Even though Travis does seem to be "the one" for Gabby based on the rest of the story, I still have a hard time justifying her actions. Not so much that she went out with Travis, but that she fell into bed with him while still considering herself committed to Kevin. And Gabby is not the only one to blame. Travis knew she had a serious boyfriend, but he still pursued her and allowed himself to participate, so both made bad choices in my opinion. Gabby's choice between Travis and Kevin is left a bit up in the air at the end of Part One. Part Two jumps into the future with Travis being married with 2 daughters. It isn't immediately clear to me whether he married Gabby and had a family or whether Gabby chose Kevin and Travis eventually found someone else. Gabby's not in the immediate picture and at first I thought she'd died. We later find out that Travis is struggling with whether to adhere to the wishes she set forth in her living will (which will probably result in her death) or transferring her to a nursing home with little hope that she will recover. Gabby has made this decision because of a couple she saw at the hospital and seeing how the husband changed over time as his wife stayed unresponsive. She doesn't want that for her husband or family. I can sympathize with Travis's choice. It is tough to decide when to let go. When is enough enough? When is there no more hope? He's lucky to have a decent support system: his parents, sister, 3 friends and their wives, office staff (even if most don't know the full extent of the choice he needs to make).

I really enjoyed this typical Nicholas Sparks book. Typical in that two people fall in love and live happily ever after in endless bliss. However, "the choice" did not turn out to be "the choice" I was expecting. The story moves along and kept me entertained.

Watched The Best of Me on TV, so decided to read the choice since I was in the mood for a little more romance. It was good but now that I've read the book I don't think I'll go see the movie. You think the choice is about who the girl will choose but it's not. There's s much tougher choice later in the book.

Review: The Choice This book is about a man named Travis. He has a job as a vet. He meets his neighbor when she hear him and his buddy are making noise. His neighbor storms over to tell him about his dog running the neighborhood.Gabby seem to always have a chip on her shoulder. She a little worried about her dog. There are quite a journey that they go about. Travis tries to be neighborly toward her. Gabby seem to give him a hard time when they meet.Travis invites her to have some fun with him and friends. Though they do go about a journey that has twist and turns that lead to you wanting to know what happens next. Will they be able to keep love alive? They seem to go though some arguments and but heads. Will they work it out or will they walk away from each other.

As a native of NC, loved this book as well as have ready all Sparks' books. Looking forward to the upcoming movie as well.

Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all: it makes you ask the question....how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?

While I'm not normally a sappy romantic, I have recently finished two books by Nicholas Sparks, The Choice and The Best of Me. When choosing books, I usually look for a good writer rather than a good story because I feel like a good writer can write any story and make it good. Mr. Sparks is just such a writer as every book I have read by him has me on the edge wanting more and I always have this feeling of wanting to hurry up and find out what happens next. In The Choice, each of the main characters must make a choice. One must choose between two men and the other must choose whether or not to pull the feeding tube on a coma patient. In The Best of Me, high school sweethearts are reunited but their destiny is uncertain and, I must say, totally unpredictable. This one is reminiscent of The Notebook. Like I mentioned before, I'm not usually into romance type novels but these are very well written and also very suspenseful. And both will keep you up late at night trying to find out what will happen next. I enjoyed them very much and I highly recommend anything by Nicholas Sparks. All of his books are National Best Sellers and three of them have been made into motion pictures. Both were published by Grand Central Publishing.

I liked that the ending had a little twist but in all honesty, I was pretty much bored the last half of the book waiting to see what happened...definitely not my favorite Nicholas Sparks book, but still okay.

Usually I like Nicholas Sparks books, like "The Notebook". However, though this book promised to be as poignant, it couldn't elicit any emotions out of me. The writing is stilted, even the affair doesn't evoke any anticipation or passion. Later, the plot is too stretched.

    A wasted premise

Oh, my gawd, it's finally over. This is among the worst books I've ever read, a complete waste of time, the only thing that saved it from ending up on my "Abandoned" shelf was that I wanted to know what the hell this "choice" was. It wasn't worth finishing. The writing was completely amateurish, the story structure was poorly done, and the elements of the story were just completely overdone and predictable. Having somewhat enjoyed "The Notebook", I was surprised this book was written by the same author. I would never pay for this book. Ever.

This is an easy read but oh so predictable. I found the last third of the book really belabored the dilemma of the "choice".

The book I read was, The choice By Nicholas Sparks. This was not one of my favorite books by him. This book was good but I felt like part one in the book could of been a little more interesting. Travis Parker was just a normal man living his normal life in a friendly town, until Gabby Holland moved in next door. They meet due to a couple problems with their dogs and become friends after hanging out a couple of times. They become really close friends and eventually move on to getting married. But after having two kids a shocking thing happens to both of them. Luckily Travis does not get hurt. Gabby on the other hand does. Travis then has to make a very big choice that will change his and Gabby's life forever.I rate this book a 3 out of 5 star.. I rate this book that because I got very into the book and could feel the emotions Gabby and Travis were feeling from Nicholas descriptive language. I also feel that the beginning of the book (part one) could of been more interesting.

I love the way this book is written and enjoyed it all the way through. Nicholas Sparks is one of the only romance writers that I enjoy reading. He makes his characters so compelling that you just want more and more of them. I haven't come across one of his books yet that is a sappy love story.

This was a great book that was an easy read. It keeps you interested all the way through. It's a story about how one choice can change your life completely. How Travis and Gabby have the strongest love for eachother that gets them through anything.

The Choice is my first read from Nicholas Sparks and I enjoyed it so much. Technically, The Choice consists of two parts together with prologue and epilogue. In the first part, in 1996 the story revolves around Travis and the girl next door, Gabby. The start with a little crappy argument about a pregnant dog which I think is funny enough to make me lough. And then they accidentally become friends again because the dog and just in a short while pop! the fall in love. Well, this might be the first Spark's book that I read, but I did watched two films adapted from his books, The Notebook and Dear John. All the characters are easily fall in love which I think not too realistic. They spend two or three days together and then saying "I Love You" to each other. Uh huh...It's just to good to be true. However, I do think that the love story between Travis and Gabby is amazing. They are sweet, they are funny, and they are great in many ways. But, here comes the conflict, will Gabby leaves her longtime boyfriend for a guy she hardly knew? She has to choose. The first part is very relaxing and easy to read because all thing seems so great and romantic. But, the second part of the book gives different perception. Everything is different. Eleven years after that, Travis is put under pressure. His world is crumbling apart and he just can't stop blaming himself for what had happened. He's left with a choice, and the choice puts him in a great dilemma. To defend his love or to just let go? This part is sure heartbreaking and I just have to control myself to not to shed tears because it's really sad. It's really hard for me to finish this part but I stay until the last page. I'm really impressed by the way Sparks create the story. He makes Travis vulnerable but strong at the same time. I admired Travis quite a lot and I also hated him for blaming himself. I do predict the ending, but my prediction is nothing but wrong.Well, I might love this book more if my prediction hitting the bull's eye. Well, if you ask me which one my favorite character is? I'll tell you it's Steph. I love this outspoken, understanding, funny, confident and ambitious girl. She also very supportive and always be there when Travis needs her.Though, she has to little of appearance throughout the story, every time she comes out she gives quite an impact not just to other characters and the story, but me the reader as well. She's great! In a nut shell, The Choice is a novel worth reading. Got to get other installments by Nicholas Sparks.Favorite Quote"How far should you go to keep the hope of love alive?"

A predicable, very pleasant storyFor me this is a predictable, although enjoyable story. I really enjoyed the writer's style of telling the story and his ability to keep me thinking as to what would happen next. There was a bit of a twist at the end which is more up-beat than his usual endings. Then the Epilogue came and turned it all around again. It is an easy read, but still a book you won't want to put down.

A great love story, maybe a little far out of reach. I am not sure if I could really fall in love with another in the spand of a weekend but it was a light read. I thought the ending was going to end in the typical way you would think but Nicholas gives you a twist that turns the book around.

The epitome of an unrealistic romance, everything is too perfect. I feel like Kevin without any resolution to my plot line. Totally fails to deliver what is expected of a Nicholas Sparks novel.
