About this audiobook
Ian Collins is an old man without his son. Patrick Collins is a young boy without his father. On his Christmas list are only three items. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather's house. And he wants the dusty wooden soldier in Grandfather's attic-the one he is forbidden to touch. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift is the engaging story of a family in need of forgiveness. With simple grace, it reminds us of the small things that affect powerful change in our hearts-a young boy's prayers, a shoe box of love letters, and even a half-carved soldier, long forgotten. This nostalgic story of reconciliation will touch your heart.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is set during WW2. A small boy loses his mom to a tragic car accident, his dad is in Europe flying bombing missions over Germany and the child goes to live is a cranky grandfather. A telegram arrives that says the father is MIA, which brings out the worse in the already cranky grandfather. A Christmas miracle happens. This book will bring a smile and a tear to your eyes at the end
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a wonderful and moving story! ian Collins is a crusty and bitter old man who doesn't have a good word for anyone. When his daughter-in-law dies just before Christmas, Ian is stuck with his 7 year old grandson...just until his son, Shaun, a WWII B-17 pilot, can be found. Patrick arrives to a cold house, in more ways that one. When he goes to the attic with his grandfather, Patrick discovers a partially carved and unpainted WWI soldier. He wants nothing more for Christmas (except for his father to return quickly and rescue him from this house). But Ian yells at Patrick for bringing the soldier down from the attic. When Patrick tries a 2nd time to keep the soldier, he discovers a telegram saying his father is missing in action over Germany. Now Patrick wants two things for Christmas-his father's safe return home and the WWI soldier. He doesn't pray for his grandfather's heart to thaw. That seems impossible.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story line, very good characters, moves quickly and has depth in thought. Would recommend!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book even though I thought it was a bit predictable.
