- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book gives a brief biography of John Smith. It describes his journey to America in 1607 and the building of Jamestown. I did not read this book aloud to my students, but made it available for individual reading during our explorer unit. In hindsight, I think it would be a good whole class read aloud to segue from the explorer unit to the colonial unit. Though it is meant for younger or struggling readers, I think it would be a sufficient bridge between the units for all students.
