- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Well read! However there were at least 4 portions of various chapters where there was silence. Even after trying to go back and listen again it was silent.
Also, several times I had to search for the book even though I had been listening to it for multiple hours… it didn’t pop up when I opened the app.
That all being said, I have enjoyed Scribd and will continue using this app. Thank you for the large selection from which to choose from! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book has challenged me in so many ways. Recommend if you want to grow with the Lord!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is a story about a Chinese Christian house church leader who goes through horrible trials, torture and imprisonment in order to spread the gospel of Jesus. It gives us an idea of how the Christians of China are being persecuted by the Chinese goverment. It is clock-full of miracles and great escapes and is easy to read and hard to put down. There is not much about the Christian culture in China, so if you are looking for more understanding on that, I would suggest Randy Alcorn's book, Safetly Home. This book will make you think about your relationship with Jesus and cause you to question whether or not you are doing what he commands you to do in regards to the great commision.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was one of the greatest biographies that I have ever read before. Brother Yun has a great testimony for His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Some of the persecution and stories sound almost "unbelievable," and I guess to the unbelieving mind they are totally unbelievable. To a fellow Christian, who knows the power of God, however, it is not unbelievable at all. Brother Yun's story is a modern-day story from the book of Acts. As a Baptist, there was nothing within Brother Yun's story that would make me question its validity and trustworthiness. Very much recommended to all.Edit: I always read other's reviews after writing my own as to try not to copy something someone else has written. While every review was positve (except one- 2 stars), I wanted to say one comment in regards to the negative comment. Freedom of opinion and thought is one thing that makes America so great- praise God for America; so what I say is not so much a criticism of this review as much as a disagreement with the reviewer's assessment. This particular reviewer stated that he/she felt Brother Yun "lacked in humility." While Brother Yun did mention his fast several times along with other miracles that God performed through his amazing life, I believe every time he mentioned it he gave praise to God. And secondly, I am not sure how anyone could not see a humble spirit while reading, but apparently some can. This makes me think about the Apostle Paul when he was describing himself as "Pharisee of the Pharisees." Would any think that his reference to his "works" prior to salvation is his pride showing through? I don't think it was in Paul's case, nor in the case of Brother Yun. I will close with two comments: first, to be fair, this reviewer did not entirely criticize the testimony of Brother Yun- he/she did praise God for the wonderful things He did in Brother Yun's life. Second, I believe Brother Yun's heart and humility can be seen even on the last two pages of the book- Deling's (Brother Yun's wife) states, "Jesus is everything and we are nothing" and among Brother Yun's final words are, "You need to realize that any love I have in my heart for Jesus is only because His love for me." I do agree with this reviewer that Randy Alcorn's book Safely Home is a wonderful fiction novel dealing with persecution in China.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing, humbling, and a story of courage with faith that we could all benefit from having.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Every Christian needs to read this book. It really challenged my faith. I normally don’t comment on books, I put this one in my top three reads. I’ve read books like The Insanity of God, God’s Smuggler, Through Gates of Splendor, Leaving Buddha, Seeking Allah Finding Jesus, and Captive in Iran. Out of all of those, this one was my favorite. If you just read this book, check out those titles I just named. They are a lot like this book. They all had real people who served a real God.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is hectic. Always focus on God both in the good and bad times. Obedience is better than sacrifice. When God moves in your life, you can not stay silent. I should be ware, I should never disobey God's principles.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing! A man fully surrendered to God. A rare and amazing story to behold.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is the single most important book outside the Bible for the western (American) church to read. I can’t stress it’s importance enough. I am ashamed of my American Christianity.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This must be one of the best books I've read.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I felt uncomfortable when reading this book firstly due to the title. Should anyone really name themselves "The Heavenly Man?" I found the many miracles almost unbelievable and would like to have seen other sources that supported his version of events. I'm just not sure I can accept that these things really happened and as another reviewer has pointed out, several of the stories mirror things that happened in scripture down to the last detail (Yun's escape from prison)
I wouldn't recommend this as it may confuse a non-believer or a not so discerning believer... - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun is . . . wow. If you're interested in the recent history of China and the growth of Christianity there since the '70s, this is the book for you. If you're interested in how Christianity can be revived, this is the book for you. If you want to read current history that mirrors the book of Acts, this is the book for you. If you're a sceptic of Christianity, please read this book; it is the strongest testimony and proof I can imagine for Christianity.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Compelling story about a Chinese Christian's personal experiences as he strives to live for God and do his will.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is an extremely challenging read. Living in a world where we expect comfort and complain about the mildest trials, it is healthy and encouraging to read the testimony of the Chinese Christians. Brother Yun came to faith through the Holy Spirit's power through vision, an astonishing provision of a bible and through opening his eyes and heart to the truth of His word. This was in rural China - many miles away from great evangelists. Let his personal relationship with Jesus inspire you to know your Lord more and to live in obediance to him. Through obediance we live out God's kingdom on this earth.'The simple fact that the Chinese church has grown into a force tens of millions strong today is a sign not only of God's existence but his matchless power': quote from the preface of the book
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very challenging book. Makes you really think about how you would react in similar circumstances.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This amazing book details the miraculous journey of Brother Yun as he seeks to serve God despite a hostile Chinese authorities.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a powerful story of a Chinese Christian missionary. Every time I read it I find that my faith is renewed and I am astonished that people have trouble believing in the existence of a loving God. The book is also written very well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing and inspirational book. This will definitley open your eyes to things. A modern day Book of Acts
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The life story of an amazing Chinese Christian. The real moral of the story was that he should have listened to his wife...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This best seller describes how Christianity spread through China despite the Government's attempts to destroy the Church and where simply owning a Bible could have horrific consequences if discovered by the authorities. This book details many miracles and visions that Brother Yun and his wife witnessed as a result of the Holy Spirit enabling people to come to Jesus. Brother Yun also describes his experiences in prison in horrific detail and how God worked through these dark times in his life. An incredible book to encourage you in your faith!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Remarkable man. Very inspiring book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is absolutely life-changing! I put off reading it because it sounded a bit incredulous but I am so glad I read it. I have a greater understanding of the persecution our brothers and sisters experience in China and the great miraculous working of God in those areas of need. I cried at their suffering and their deep faith. I cried at our own complacency and lukewarmness. It is a must read for all of us who have forgotten that there are those who need our prayers all around the world - for not everyone is free to follow Christ.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An incredible account of a pioneer of the underground Christian movement in China. Revealing insight into the persecution Chinese Christians truly suffer at the hands of a ruthless, barbaric government. A documentary of the incredible miracles God performed to enable this dear Christian brother's ministry to survive and florish. The most incredible documentary I have ever read. Inspiring, gripping, hunbling, insightful and convicting ... an absolute "must read" for any Christian.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the most encouraging books regarding the power and work of God in one man's life and the reulting influence on the Chinese church
