About this audiobook
Firstborns were born to win. Clearly the natural movers, shakers, and leaders of this world, they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. They're the high achievers, the benchmark-setters, the business moguls, the concert violinists, the heads of the PTA. But if they're out of balance, they can be overly perfectionist, driven, and critical. They can become controllers (everything has to go their way) or pleasers (exhausting themselves in meeting the demands of others).
In The Firstborn Advantage, bestselling author, humorist, and internationally known psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman identifies the qualities of firstborns...and there's a hook. Just because you're the firstborn child in the family doesn't mean you'll have a firstborn personality. You can be #3 in a group of 4 siblings, and still have a firstborn personality! Dr. Leman reveals why. He helps firstborns understand their natural advantages--while becoming aware of their weaknesses and learning how to sidestep them--for the highest level of personal success at home, at school, at work, and in relationships. This fun, informative, and practical book will keep readers engaged and provide many "aha!" moments.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Anyone who knows my reading knows that I really like Dr. Leman's work - it's always entertaining, well-written (in a conversational tone that never patronizes or placates), and I almost always come away having learned something that will really help me in the future. This time around, many of the things Leman talked about were things I already knew - I've read his Birth Order Book in the past and did a bit of study on birth order myself - but it was nice to hear them again.Yes, I am a first born, and yes, I have extreme firstborn tendencies. I struggle with perfectionism, anxiety, unnecessary comparisons to others (that's the competitive streak), being overly critical of certain people, etc etc etc. Dr. Leman gave some advice on how to turn these negative traits into positive uses, using the firstborn tendencies to really push ahead in life. It was nice to be encouraged... unfortunately, there were also a few irrelevant chapters for me that slowed down the read (ie. about parenting or having a critical-eyed firstborn parent), but I plugged through them anyway and might actually recommend the book to some friends who just had their first baby... it might help them get a different perspective on how they raise their firstborn daughter. All said, if you're a firstborn, you have special traits that set you apart from the rest of your siblings, simply because of the way you were raised. Why not use that to your advantage?
