About this audiobook
Set in the hard-scrabble solar system of The Expanse, this novella takes the bestselling scifi series to the slums of Baltimore and into a dark world of organized crime, drugs, prostitution, and murder.
Before his trip to the stars, before the Rocinante Timmy was confined to a Baltimore where crime paid you or killed you. Unless the authorities got to you first.
On a future Earth beset by overpopulation, pollution, and poverty, people do what they must to survive. The Churn follows a crime boss named Burton as his organization is threatened by a new private security force tasked with cleaning up the city. When the police start cracking down, Burton and his footsoldiers-loyal lieutenant Erich, former prostitute Lydia, and young enforcer Timmy-become increasingly desperate to find a way out.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An enlightening backstory about the origins of the character who would become Rocinante crewman Amos. While this is informative and interesting it is not required reading for those wishing to understand the Expanse series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Outstanding series on the SciFy Channel. The book series is even better.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story and intriguing world! Have a listen if you like futuristic crime stories.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Much better than Gods of Risk, character background is so much more interesting and Timmy’s is a character that comes with so much in the series that you pay to find out the whys, whats and hows. Ahem, as in -at the kindle price.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Origin story Novella for Amos about his last days on Earth.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this novella set in the world of Corey’s Expanse series, the city of Baltimore is a slum. Most citizens live on basic government assistance, but some have used criminal enterprise to rise above that level of existence. In the shady underbelly of organized crime, a young man named Timmy takes a job with a boss named Burton. He may have a future in the family, but he might not have what it takes to follow the most unpleasant of orders. If the reader is already familiar with the Expanse series, this is a nice glimpse into the society of Earth. Other volumes and stories have taken place mostly in space or the more rarified areas of Earth. Also, those familiar with the series should be able to discern early in the tale who Timmy eventually becomes. The character development is good, as well as the world building. With each foray into this universe, I get more and more fascinated. I am excited to read the next volume of the series.
