About this audiobook

This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett -- funny, irreverent, and irresistible.

Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another.

In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such at Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary "Went With the Wind" skit; and things that would happen only to Carol--the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium.

This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

As much as I wanted to like this book, Burnett pretty much seemed to go literally on what she can remember. I wish she had remembered more! Anyway, a light, easy read.

I loved Carol Burnett in "Annie", and "Merrily We Roll Along", and in the "Burnett Show"! So I was very excited to read her memoir. I listened to the audio book, which Carol read. It was like she was just having a conversation. Most of the book was hysterical although there were times when it took a more serious, somber tone. I loved this book and it made me admire and look up to Ms. Burnett even more.

Lovely memories from a much-loved celebrity

The only fault in this book is that it should go on forever! Carol Burnett provides many wonderful memories and stories of her life in this compendium.

The essays are small and easily enjoyed. There are stories of her younger years and family, of her early career and the years on TV, and life after the Carol Burnett Show. Some even bring a tear to the eye, but most leave you with a grin. For those of us old enough to have seen her show or specials on TV, there are happy recollections of days gone by.

Now off to read her first book...

This Time Together by Carol Burnett is a series of anecdotes, some of them funny, some of them serious. Reading them felt like spending an evening with Carol where she talked about many topics that are important to her, from her humble beginnings in show business, to family events, to stories from her tv shows and everything in between. Carol has lived quite a life, having success in an area that was unheard of for a woman to enter back in the day: being the host and star for a comedy variety show. Throughout it all Carol has remained humble and there is a feeling of gratitude comes through in the stories. It was a delightful read.

The life and times of one of the greats of the biz. Many moments about her life, and a few of the show. Funny events and surprising happenings from behind the scenes [did you know Judy Andrews was a wicked prankster]. Also, some intimate and sad stories throughout her life.

In short vignettes, Carol Burnett reflects on life, laughter, family and friends. Awhile back, she toured the U.S. giving one woman shows that were essentially an extended question and answer period. She never knew what would be asked ahead of time, but some questions and stories kept coming up often. From those stories, and others she chose to share, Carol gives you a window into her life as a woman in show biz, a wife, a mother and a friend in this entertaining memoir. This was made truly delightful by listening to the unabridged audio read by Carol herself. Her personality really came through in the reading, from comedic timing in the funniest stories to hearing her choke back tears during the most poignant. Whether you were a huge fan of the show or, like me, too young to have seen it (yes, I know, but that's what DVDs and YouTube are for, and I promise I'm rectifying that), this is a fabulous, heartwarming and very funny read.

This is a wonderful collection of stories from Carol. Expect no muck-racking or trash talking about other celebrities-Carol is too classy for that. You can expect to learn more about her variety show, all of her guests and co-stars, and a little about her family and her life growing up. There are very few sad moments or stories here, but that was just fine with me.

Highly recommended in audio form for fans of the Carol Burnett show.

The audio version of this book is read by Carol Burnett, herself, and hearing it in her own voice adds a nice layer to all the stories told. I'd read Ms. Burnett's first book about growing up in an extremely dysfunctional, yet extremely loving family. This was a nice follow-up -- stories of her breaking into show-biz, time on TV, family life, and life after The Carol Burnett Show. There were quite a few funny moments, some poignant, and some really interesting/informational. It was more on the sweet than raucous or bawdy side, and I suspect that having Harvey Korman and Tim Conway together was more the later than the former, but still, I enjoyed listening. There was an elevator story of Carol meeting John Steinbeck that reminded me a little of meeting Gene Kelly in an elevator in New York (sigh.) I had not realized some of the more personal elements of Carol's life, nor had I realized she had such a sense of almost karmic beliefs. I loved the Carol Burnett show and wish I could remember seeing the Gary Moore show (or that it was available somewhere, but supposedly it's in black and white and not been revived on DVD). It was fun to hear that famous Tarzan scream again (and a story involving a mugger will be a favorite, along with the Tim Conway toilet paper one.) But best of all were the stories of her grandmother. "Seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say, "So long"."Thanks, Carol.

Carol Burnett’s memoir spans her entire life, without going into too much detail on any one part. She sticks mainly to recounting facts, without too much emotion. For instance, she tells us that she and her first husband got divorced but doesn’t go into much detail as to why. One part that does get emotional is when she talks about her daughter’s death. I could hear her voice breaking as she tried to hold back her tears.Carol narrates the book herself, which makes her humorous anecdotes even funnier. My favorite stories were the ones from The Carol Burnett Show, since that’s primarily what I know her from. I didn’t realize how ground breaking that show was in so many ways.I’m not a Carol Burnett super-fan but I still enjoyed This Time Together very much. Listening to it on audiobook was like having a conversation with her. (Albeit, one-sided!) I recommend it for anyone who enjoys memoirs, fans or not.

This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection by Carol Burnett (Audio version performed by Burnett)

    ★★★★★ ♥

Ok. I adore Carol Burnett. Her variety show was amazing and cracks me up whenever I see old reruns. Anything I’ve ever seen her in puts a smile on my face and she just seems so… likable. And the audio version? I cannot say enough great things about it! Her personality shines from beginning to end in this delightful book and I couldn’t stop listening to it. How can you not love listening to Carol talk about her life, singing and of course her famous Tarzan yell? Awesome is all I can say. If possible, this book made me love Carol Burnett even more than I already did.

Carol goes into stories about her childhood, her climb to success, the people that made that success possible. She talks about her friends and her family. She talks about the crazy moments and the more subdues moments that made her who she is. Some stories are very sweet and some of the stories are just there because…they’re too humorous not to be there. This memoir made me smile and laugh throughout and when she talks about her daughter, Carrie, my heart broke – you can hear the pain in her voice as she talks of her death (as a side note, she now has a new book about their relationship). This is one of the few books that I would say skip the actual book, although I’m sure it’s fine in that format, and jump right to the audio – it’s a joy to listen to. Love Love Love.

I can join some of the celebrities who commented on the back cover of the book as I do read it in one sitting. No matter if the story is sad, poignant or happy it is always genuine, what a really great person she is and I feel like we will always be friends.

Warm, sweet and exactly what you'd expect from Miss Burnett. There are some delightful vignettes from her time on television. She doesn't say anything mean or catty about anyone, it's a love letter to her fans, her friends and her family. Nicely narrated by Burnett herself.

One of the five people alive/dead I would want to come to a dinner party (you've all played that game, right?) if I could, Carol Burnett writes this collection of (mostly) chronological anecdotes and vignettes starting from where her memoir of early life left off - when she got to New York and began getting into show business. Although the book went quickly, it wasn't trite or superficial. It felt like eating a bunch of really tasty homemade Christmas cookies that you and your favorite relative made together - they taste so good you just keep eating them, and as you do so you think about the people involved in making the cookies.
    Excellent.

Very enjoyable! I want to meet this lady - for that is what she is - she would be a pleasure to know. Not an easy life, but one she has endeavored to live with joy and purpose. This is a light retelling of how she got where she is and the people she knew along the way.

This book was a pleasure to read! Each chapter is its own short story, nicely told and with a good amount of humor. The whole book felt very personal, as if Carol Burnett were sitting with me and telling me some memorable tales of her life.
