About this audiobook
Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable. A tart-tongued mother does dead-on imitations of her young son's nervous tics, to the great amusement of his teachers; a stint of Kerouackian wandering is undertaken (of course!) with a quadriplegic companion. Through it all is Sedaris's unmistakable voice, without a doubt one of the freshest in American writing.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was entertaining. Nothing more; nothing less.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was suppose to be funny . I think I laughed one time. I felt more sorry for all the stuff he went through.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5*THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE AUDIO BOOK*
When the print book was released, people reading NAKED on the subway (NYC) laughed outloud-- seeing this day in and day out, to and from work, I bought the book and as much as I tried not to laugh aloud on the subway, I, too, couldn't help myself.
This was not my first introduction to David Sedaris (his Macy's Santa Elf essay was a favorite memoir story of mine).
As much as I enjoyed Naked, I couldn't stand listening to the audiobook-- which surprised me, as I generally love Amy Sedaris, and hearing brother and sister tell David's tales of their childhood and family seemed fitting. I found Amy's participation disruptive. Perhaps because I never read the essays giving the characters the (sometimes difficult to understand) accents Amy employed. It also sounds like Amy's parts were recorded during a different recording session: they're disjointed.
Lastly, the saxophone pulls the listener out of the story.
I enjoy reading Naked more than listening to this book (and believe me, I've heard David read his work aloud and that he is hysterically funny!).
If you don't enjoy this audiobook, PLEASE give the print book a try. While the first three essays are the strongest, the entire book is incredibly well written and funny. Well worth the read. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Brilliant book, as usual for mr. Sedaris. My only problem was that it just was not long enough.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I thought this was typical David Sedaris -- not spectacular, but enjoyable for the most part. His autobiographical sections are the best, I think.
