About this audiobook
Her trip to Georgia to meet the mysterious author takes her to an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, where Maris finds Parker Evans, a man confined to a wheelchair who carefully hides his past. Coaxing his novel from him chapter by chapter, Maris gets caught up in his tale of two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of sex and drinking. Only one person will return from that trip.
Disturbed about her sexual attraction to Parker and worried about her marriage to author and her co-publisher Noah Reed, Maris returns to New York where the delivery of Parker's newest chapters convince her they are more than fiction. She wonders how well she knows her husband and begins a harrowing search for a truth that ties back to a terrifying crime and a will use her, or anyone, to get his revenge.
Envy explores the way love and hatred shape lives in a breathtaking story of suspense.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A very good plot and reasonably well-drawn characters. The only thing that bothered me about this book was the purple prosish nature of the sex scenes. A little too leeringly graphic for my taste -- almost bad porn. But the plot compensated for it I would read her again.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The perfect pairing of a spicy romance with a mysterious revenge plot keeping you on your toes for through every plot twist. This novel quickly pushed its way to being in my top 3 favorites. Highly recommend even with the southern/different voice accents. It will not disappoint.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A book within a book. When reading Envy, you are reading a book about a book whose plot lines finally merge together in one big mystery. A great thriller! The basic plot: Matherly Press is a well-respected publishing house based in New York run by publisher and vice president Maris Matherly-Reed and her husband Noah, also a vice president. Although Maris is at the top of the power game, she still goes through the slush pile to see if she can find that once in once in a lifetime bestseller. She thinks she's found it when she reads the prologue to ENVY written by somebody with the initials PME. There is no name or address on the package so Maris has to do a little sleuthing to track down the author. When she locates him, she travels down to St. Anne's Island off the Georgia coast to meet with him. What she finds is a wheelchair bound man who wants her to leave. Her determination to stay leads to a mutual attraction that neither of them wanted. Although she tries her best to control her desires by returning to her husband, Noah's betrayal sends her back to PME--Parker Evans. She doesn't realize that Parker had been close to Noah years ago and has been betrayed by him as well and that the book she is reading is revealing the details of their betrayal and Parker's desire for revenge.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved every minute of Envy! Well worth the time!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An interesting story that soon divided into two threads. The first one was so intriguing that I skipped ahead to see what happened and ended up just reading that path. I returned to read other part which was slower paced but insightful. Publisher Maris is lured into a potential story submitted by secretive author Parker.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'm not a big Sandra Brown fan, but I enjoyed this one. An easy story to listen to while driving.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this book. It kept me on my toes woundering what was going to happen next. I was rooting for theblead characters to be together.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Maris Matherly-Reed is a celebrated New York book editor, the daughter of apublisher, vice president of Matherly Press, and wife of best-selling authorNoah Reed. It isn't often that an unsolicited submission so captivates herthat she feels she must immediately meet its author. But Maris has justreceived a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identifiedonly as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgiacoast. P.M.E.'s blockbuster potential compels Maris to search for him.On an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, she finds cantankerous, rude andarrogant Parker Evans, a man determined to conceal his identity as well ashis past. Working with him chapter by chapter, Maris is riveted by his taleof two friends who charter a boat with a young woman for a night ofrevelry....an excursion from which only one person returns. As the storyunfolds, Maris becomes convinced that it is more than just fiction.Disturbed about her growing attraction to Parker and gripped by a chillingsuspicion about his novel's characters, she digs for the undisclosed truthabout a crime committed decades ago. She begins to realize that there arefew around her she can trust, and that evil resides closer to her than sheever dreamed.-------This book could have been a lot better than it was, I think. It was hardlythe "breathtaking story of suspense" that the jacket said it was, and theending was not a "shattering, surprise finale" that was promised. I figuredit out less than half way through so it was more a matter of seeing how theauthor would go about the resolution of the story than a page turner. Itwas a pleasant read, but not very gripping.I'd give it a 2.5.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5WOW! Juicy and fulfilling all the way to the end
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sandra Brown never disappoints. Father/daughter book publishers are being minipulated by the daughter's husband while she is courting a writer who has sent her an anonymous manuscript. Maris has made it her mission to find the author and edit the book with him leaving her elderly father vulnerable to her husband's maniupulations. The manuscript is told slowly within the story telling what happened to Parker.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5awesome book - one of the best I've ever read - great story. Is during the lost period - so not sure when I read it
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It has been a long while since I have read a book by Sandra. Yet, all of the books I did read by her were good. So I thought I would have no problems jumping right into Envy. The beginning of this book was good. The mystery surround what happened years ago between friends had me really wanting to know the truth like Maris. My issues that I had with this book are:1) Maris is boring. 2) The story lacked any real suspense3) Too long of a storyline4) Uninteresting characters5) An so, so ending.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book really should have been called Vengeance. Regardless, it was fabulous. This is my first Sandra Brown book, and what a way to start! There's so many twists and turns that I was afraid of getting whiplash. Brown's characterizations paint vivid pictures of her characters in your mind, right down to the smallest mannerisms. By the end, I liked everyone in the book except Noah, even Nadia, and I didn't suspect Mike's involvement until right before it was revealed. Parker's book is easily woven into the story. He drops a clue as to the true nature of his story fairly early on, and I'm not sure why Maris didn't catch it, but the final draft ends up being much worse, and much more, than you expect. And if all of Brown's sex scenes are so well done, I'm going to keep reading. My one complaint has to do with the audio version of the book I listened to -- the southern accents are a bit overdone. I've heard some pretty thick accents, and I don't know anyone who talks like Parker, Mike, Roarke, and Todd.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Creative mystery, kept the reader guessing
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I think this book is one of the best of this author. The plot is thick with emotional entanglements, twists and turns. I love and hate equally the characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting book. Rather predictable but did have some surprises.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a well written book. I have listened to it many times a day and night. I recommend you listen because you won’t regret it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I ever read. Kept me in suspense as there were several twists and turns. Unanticipated ending. Excellent.
