From My Blog...Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden is a fast-paced thriller with the added elements of romance and mystery amongst the members of the Serial Services Division of the FBI. Special Agent Monica “Ice” Davenport is a profiler with a hidden past who is about to be partnered up with an old fling, Agent Luke Dante, who is new to the Serial Services Division of the FBI and eager to show the team he is worth being there. Luke and Monica are sent to coordinate efforts with Jasper County’s sheriff Hank Davies to help stop a serial killer who is intelligent, sadistically brutal, appears to know his victim’s biggest fears, and is not only escalating in his killings; he is also targeting Special Agent Davenport. Agent Davenport may need to confront her past to survive this case. Deadly Fear is a definite page-turner, which takes the reader through a maze of clues, setbacks and plot twists making Deadly Fear an exceptional book to read. I have two minor complaints about the novel and the first is not legitimate and the second is minor. I know this is a romance suspense novel but it would have been just as good without the romance sections and as I mentioned, that one truly is not a valid complaint as it is the genre of the book. The second is more a pet peeve of mine and in this case it came in the form Luke’s apparent habit of calling Monica “baby”, pet names have always irritated me, minor as I said and did not detract from the novel. With those being my only grievances, minor as they are, I can say without a doubt, this is a brilliant suspense novel. The characters are flawed which makes them all the more vulnerable and realistic. Deadly Fear is the first novel in Cynthia Eden’s newest series and fortunately her next book, Deadly Heat will be available in February. I recommend Deadly Fear to anyone who likes a well thought out and planned suspense novel.

    Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden
Book #1 in the Deadly Trilogy
    4.5 Stars

Synopsis: Jasper, Mississippi is in the grip of a serial killer who exposes his victims to their greatest fears. FBI profiler Monica Davenport has a reputation for being cold as ice, but it is this skill that enables her to “see” into the minds of the most atrocious monsters. As the body count rises, Monica, along with the only man to ever get under her skin, fellow agent, Luke Dante, must bring down this cruel sadist before he turns his attentions on them.

Review: This is a riveting, edge-of-your-seat thriller that pulls you in and doesn’t let go until the very end. Monica’s characterization is amazing with her combination of strength, vulnerability and passion. Luke, on the other hand, is not as well fleshed out. His compassionate nature is hinted at but never completely fulfilled. Nevertheless, he is an endearing character and a perfect complement to Monica. The villain is also especially creepy but I would have liked to know more about his backstory.

Recommendation:This is an enthralling read and will definitely be continuing with the series. Beware it does contain some sexually explicit scenes and language.

This was the first book I ever read by Cynthia Eden, and I've been a fan ever since. Actually, I didn't read the book. I picked up an electronic copy at my local library a couple of years ago. It was absolutely wonderful. She writes great heroes, but even better heroines. Out of her many series, the "Deadly" series is by far my favorite.

I was surprised by this book. I expected lot of sex and the lack of plot. But it was totally different. Actually, the suspense part of this book was really good. Much better than I suspected. I also liked both main characters.

Tracking a serial killer is one thing; tracking a serial killer with your ex is, well, another entirely. It's like an episode of Criminal Minds, but with a lot more sex. A quick read with more extensive character development than I expected in this genre.

Not bad, would have liked a bit more romance but the story was good and it kept me on my toes. It had great suspense and a twisted ending.

    What scares you?

The entire story revolves around that simple question. What scares me is that I don't share the majority of the reviewer's enthusiasm for this story. Okay, so I'm not scared, just baffled. I didn't connect to the characters (except perhaps lust after SA Luke Dante). Is it just me or did the writing style at the beginning sound clipped? Short sentences, statements and sentences that just trailed off? Then there's the matter of Monica and her keeping her past a secret when it might have been pertinent to the case to at least let her fellow agents know the truth? If I were Dante or any of the other agents, I'd like to have all the facts so I'd know what I was walking into. Just sayin'. The sexy times were fast and furious and seriously hot, which I credit solely to Dante being all hot and pure male, but they popped up at the oddest times. The plot itself was really good and creepy. I never guessed who the serial killer was, so hats off to Ms Eden for spinning a really good mystery and for tying up all the loose ends.

I'll probably read the rest of the series, but as of right now I'm not keen to hop to it. I'll read the next book when I run out of other things to read.

Monica Davenport and Luke Dante have history for the FBI academy. Steamy, sweaty history. Now they are working together in the Serial Services Division (SSD) a part of the agency that profiles and hunts down serial criminals. On their first case they are looking for a serial killer who uses a person's deepest fear to kill them and rekindling their romantic relationship. Once the FBI appears, the killer turns his attention to Monica. Is the secret of Monica's past drawing him to her? This is my first Cynthia Eden book but it will not be my last. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The book did not dwell on the killer, so I did not have to get too deep into his head. There was plenty of action and enough clues to keep me in the mystery. There was more sex than I usually like in a book, but it was well written so it did not bog down the story. I will definitely be reading the next one in the series.

Monica Davenport is an FBI profiler with a reputation for being the best. She has also earned the nickname, Ice, as a result of her frosty demeanor. Luke Dante is the one person who was ever able to make her feel. Now he’s back in her life, and threatening to shatter the shell she hides behind. The two are partnered, and sent to Mississippi to hunt a serial killer who targets his victim’s fears. Monica will have to face not only the secrets she has tried to keep buried, but also the undeniable attraction she feels for Luke. I’m a huge fan of Cynthia Eden’s paranormal novels, and was so excited when I heard she was writing a romantic suspense. Her books are always full of intense situations that have me holding my breath, and couples with amazing chemistry. Deadly Fear was no exception. Monica and Luke have suffered in the past at the hands of others, but came out wanting to make the world a better place. I loved Monica’s bravery and no nonsense attitude. Luke’s chivalry had me swooning. The plot was fast paced, and at end I still hadn’t figured out who the killer was. Monica and Luke together just oozed sexy. This one was hard to put down.

I liked this book. It was so suspenseful. The romance part of the story was good, but I really like suspense. It's so intriguing to me. This one was one I really connected with. Given that everyone has fears I think this one was able to really get to me. While I was reading I kept thinking about the things that I'm scared of. I could almost feel the fear that the victims were feeling when they realized what was happening to them. It gave me chills quite a few times. The romance in this was pretty good. I didn't really connect with either Luke or Monica. They were believable characters, and they were really well written. In this one the victims were the ones that I had more of an emotional connection with. Although towards the end Monica did become a bit endearing. The writing was really good in this one. The story just flowed, it had a few lulls, but they were easily overcome. The images were so vivid I could see what was happening. I really didn't want to put it down. As much as I like to read suspense it always amazes me the way the authors can "get into the head" of the killers. It takes an emotional toll on me to read these books, I can't even imagine living with that in my head while writing.... This one had to be very disturbing to write. I really liked this one. I will have to pick up more of Eden's novels.

When I was given the opportunity to review Deadly Fear I jumped on it. I have read almost all of Cynthia Eden's work and I have yet to find one that I haven't enjoyed. Cynthia is a very talented author. Monica Davenport is a women who likes to be in control. She only lost control one, and that was when she had a brief sexual relationship with a fellow FBI trainee Luke Dante. Now the two are together again as a member of the Serial Services Division, a select group chosen to hunt down serial killers. From the beginning Luke wanted to see if the attraction between them was still alive, but Monica tried to pretended that his presence didn't bother her. I loved the relationship and tension between Monica and Luke.Beside the relationship between Luke and Monica, I loved tracking the serial killer. Since I am a criminal justice / legal studies major I enjoy anything related to that. I found that Cynthia did her research for this book and I loved that. The investigation was real and exciting. One of my favorite things about Deadly Fear is that you never knew who was behind the killings until the end. If getting an insight into the mind of a crazy serial isn't enough, the clever and creepy mind games he plays will give you chills. I enjoyed how Monica was able to get into the mind of a serial killer. It is a very suspenseful novel. I loved the the drama, Luke, and Monica all capture you from the first page and won't let you put the book down. Deadly Fear is the first book of an amazing new series, that will have you completely caught up in the lives of the characters. Deadly Fear is an overflowing and tender love story, and totally believable. I can't wait to read the second installment in this wonderful series. I can't recommend Deadly Fear enough, it had the perfect amount of romance and suspense.

Cynthia Eden writes excellent crime stories, proving now that she’s as good at it in romantic suspense as she was in paranormal romance. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book, complemented by an engrossing romance.Monica is an FBI agent with quite a past. She walked away from fellow agent Luke - who she trained with - before their relationship could get too serious and too many secrets got out. Now they are working together to see if they have a serial killer on their hands and then to see if they can catch him, and there’s no way Monica’s past can stay secret.Yes, this story has been done before, and yes many of the devices have been used before. But Eden’s easy, engaging writing style and her captivating relationships mean this book is better than so many others in the genre. This was a complex story with lots of people involved, lots of different motivations. The author did a fantastic job of making all the minor characters into real people without letting them get in the way of the main story. One thing I find original about Cynthia Eden’s writing - and that I quite like - is that the relationships take off pretty much from the start of the books. There are plenty of problems along the way, but we’re not waiting until the very end to see if the couple will get together. And thank God for a fair haired hero! I’m so sick of the double-standard of heroines being able to be any look, size or shape, but the heroes always having to appear as though they’ve stepped out of ‘The Billionaire Greek/Italian/Spanish Sheik’s Timid Virgin Chamber Maid’. I loved Luke, and though I usually don’t like those ‘cold as ice’ heroines, Monica’s reasons were believable and she was an interesting character. This is the first book in a trilogy of loosely-related stories - unfortunately it’s a long wait for the next two books.
