About this audiobook

Grant Sullivan had been one of the government's most effective agents, and he's agreed to rescue Jane Hamilton Greer, a wealthy socialite possibly engaged in espionage. In the time they spent together, questions of guilt and innocence began to fade against the undeniable reality that two people from such differnet worlds should never have met.

I listened to this audio book for a visit to Costa Rica for an Around the World challenge. Romantic suspense is not my comfort zone genre but I did find the story interesting with lots of adventure. I liked the characters of Grant Sullivan and Jane Greer and the imagery of the jungle was excellent. Grant Sullivan is a deep cover agent with the government. He comes out of retirement to rescue Jane Greer who is a society girl involved in helping a US undercover agent in Costa Rica. Jane has been kidnapped and her time is running out. There are a lot of scenes of trials, tribulation and, of course, romance. This book is a reissue of a past publication from 1986 so a few things are outdated but does not really take away from the story. I would highly recommend this book to those who love romantic suspense with lots of adventure scenes.

This was a good book! I love books with tough women and protective, trained-to-fight men...

Often packaged together, this and "Diamond Bay" are books about two rough and tumble spies and the women they fall in love with are what got me hooked on Linda Howard. Kell Sabin is the sexiest hero I've ever come across, and that's saying a lot.

I just love this book. The heroine is so fun, practical, and competent, just the way I like them. The hero is strong, sweet, and not too broody, just the way I like. The story was a medium pace, but filled with action and laughter, just the way I like.

This is an excellent read and entertaining with a lot of interesting depth of the two main characters. They coming together and struggling through their way from the hands of mob and kidnappers.
Loved this book very much! Grant is well-trained and good at this job and what he does amongst that hardened ex-military fighting machine. First military service was in the war fought in Vietnam, he came back broken and needed to be by himself to recover who is and who he becomes. So, he went out to buy farmland and started to cultivate the land, including that the land helps him recover some of his mind. He is hired to rescue Jane, who turns out to be nothing like he imagined. She's smart, sweet, and feisty. They must race through the Costa Rican jungles to escape the bad guys. There is some Insta-, but I didn't mind at all. Linda Howard's writing is excellent, as always. The suspense plot was tight, and the romance was sexy and satisfying.

the book was a bit boring. What made it impossible for me to finish was the narrators choice of voice for Jane. She came off sounding like a Shirley Temple wannabe. No way could I convince myself this "person" was a grown, smart, resilient woman. She sounded like a spoiled four year old. I'll think twice before listening to anything narrated by Brenda Sweeney.

Exciting action packed story about a dangerous trek through jungle in Central America. A steamy whirlwind romance developed during the adventure. A very entertaining book. Retired agent Grant goes in to rescue Jane who is being held because she may know where contraband microfilm is located.

After a discussion on Twitter last week, I decided I need to re-read this again. It was just as satisfying this time around. Howard is definitely one of the few who can stand the test of time.

It has been so long since I read this book I didn't remember most of the details. I enjoyed it, though of course I had to take the time period into account and give some leeway to the characters.
