About this audiobook

The Women's Murder Club is stalked by a killer with nothing to lose. San Francisco Detective Lindsay Boxer is loving her life as a new mother. With an attentive husband, a job she loves, plus best friends who can talk about anything from sex to murder, things couldn't be better. Then the FBI sends Lindsay a photo of a killer from her past, and her happy world is shattered. The picture captures a beautiful woman at a stoplight. But all Lindsay sees is the psychopath behind those seductive eyes: Mackie Morales, the most deranged and dangerous mind the Women's Murder Club has ever encountered. In this pulse-racing, emotionally charged novel by James Patterson, the Women's Murder Club must find a killer--before she finds them first.

The Women are back at it again in the 13th novel. In this one the crap is really hitting the fan. There's revenge, a honeymoon from hell, pirates and bombers. Not to mention all the drama and issues the girls have in their personal lives. I breezed right through this one and I'm ready to get into book 14.

Part of the Women's Murder Club-Book 13 (somewhat obvious). I'm very attached to this small group of professional women that have become closely entwined personally and also quite helpful to each other professionally. I enjoy to the point of being somewhat envious actually. We have a couple different directions:

Yes, I am on a roll with James Patterson and trying to catch up on specific series. Lindsay Boxer had seen serial killer Randy die from injuries of a car wreck, but his girlfriend, Mackie Morales, escapes and plans havoc on Lindsay. A hamburger chain begins killing customers with internal exploding bombs and Yuki and Brady get married and take a honeymoon cruise that turns gruesome. Fast-paces action dominates the story, as the reader decides to forego hamburger chain food and cancel any cruise trips. I love the friendship and loyalty of the four women of the Murder Club. Four strong women who bond and thrive in their attempt to excel in a career and in life.

"I'm fit and she was a loose pile of what-the-fuck happened crammed into the corner behind an upended chair and dining table."
    -Lindsay Boxer

Another Women's Murder Club book by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro. If you like the WMC, you will like this book.

But, I must say there were a lot of different plots happening at the same time and I found it hard to get really attached to or engrossed in any of them. Lindsay was chasing the Belly Bomber, Cindy was trying to find an escaped fugitive from previous books, and Yuki was on her honeymoon which was interrupted by an attack. All of the plot lines could have been fleshed out more and then would have been more exciting. As it was, I didn't care much what happened in any of them and felt little if any sense of suspense.

Also, I was disappointed in the ending. Each plot seemed to close with little excitement or fanfare. They were just resolved. And then, the book was over and I was like, "oh, ok".

So, not a bad read, but nothing special really. And, as always with Patterson, short chapters and a really fast read.

    Recommended to:
Fans of Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. If you haven't read any of the WMC, I suggest you start with the first one, I think it was better. At least, I remember liking it more than this. Or, just read another Patterson series, like the Alex Cross stories. Also better in the beginning. Oh well.

This book is not much different than the others, it just has a different story line. However, I've especially noticed in this one and the last one that they are trying to cram so much into one book that the end result feels very rushed.I'm not buying into Boxer's motherhood. I think she held Julie twice in this book and it just feels forced, like the baby is an after thought. Also, Joe got to leave the house for an hour and he had to be back in "Godspeed" and if he's a stay-at-home-dad why is there a nanny? And if he's not a stay-at-home-dad, they are failing on his story line.I was all caught up in Yuki and Brady's storyline but I felt Cindy's storyline was forced and unbelievable. And the belly bomber suspect... Let's talk about that. The FBI had 400hrs of video tape to look at and came up with nothing. Boxer and Conklin get the same tapes and comment that it's like looking for a needle in a haystack and just like that Boxer sends 3 pics from the tapes, of what looks like the same guy, to her phone and takes them to a guy who does face recognition and voila, they have their suspect - just.like.that.The next book better be incredible because they are starting to lose me with improbable story lines.

Always entertaining, these Women Murder Club books are as comfortable as old house slippers. I know I will enjoy the read. Action from the opening scene until the final chapter. Easy to read. Looking forward to next one

The usual James Patterson style that I may eventually tier of but this was a good read and kept me fully entertained.

I have read this entire series but am not sure that I will continue to read it. I enjoy the characters - Lindsay, Claire, Yuki and Cindy and I have enjoyed past books when they worked together to solve crimes. In this book, they seemed to work on different things and only intersected occasionally. Plus parts of the plot were very unrealistic - terrorists on an Alaskan cruise ship??? All of that said, once you get rid of the parts that defied realism, the book is a quick read and an enjoyable couple of hours!

I love this series and love the characters. That said, this book would have been better off without the entire Alaska piracy story line. It was unbelievable and didn't add anything to the rest of the book. It was completely independent and didn't offer any chance to see the "Club" work together toward its resolution. And it was given such short shrift that we don't know anything about the background of the pirates' scheme or what happens to them afterwards. On the other hand, I loved where Cindy is going and hope to see that story develop further. I also want to see more of Lindsey and her family life. Not my favorite, but I'll keep going with the series.

The book has three different and distinct Clancy-like plot lines and the reader is expected to keep them all straight. The four main characters interacted only at the beginning and at the end...not quite the same as other times. I wish the author, whoever it is, would stay with murder mysteries instead of branching out into terrorist plots and crazy journalist stuff also. Yes, the dramatic ending tied up some previous cliff hangers, but overall, the book would be better with fewer plots.

Interesting way that the murderer is murdering people. Other than that, nothing particularly novel. Just a solid murder thriller.

Trite. Like modern "Murder She Wrote." The reading is young adult at best. The characters, story line, and situations are cliched stereotypes of gritty police work at a preteen reading level. Lacks intellectualism and quality. I couldn't finish it without feeling like my IQ was at stake.

It took a little while for the book to really grab my attention. As many other people have stated, the book really does seem quite rushed and not really complete and not in an intentional cliff hangar way. It just seems like with so much going on the author simply forgot that there were some threads left dangling in the wind. There was some decent action and suspense even though it was totally unbelievable, but i do not read these for accuracy, they are entertainment and this did entertain me. I am glad I picked it up from the library because I can't see any reason to re-read this one. Hope the next one focuses more on crime solving as a team like it used to be and less on the soap opera drama.

The Patterson book factory is losing its way. The decline started in 2012 when the factory released 12 books and accelerated with the 14 released in 2013. With 17 books scheduled for 2014, it can't manage quality and quantity simultaneously. It's become apparent with the television-like cliffhanger endings in the Alex Cross books as well as the loss of personality in the Women's Murder Club (WMC) books. Could be the Patterson Factory doesn't have enough (quality?) book editors.Lucky 13 (L13) has compelling moments although the narrative is jerky with annoying blank spots. As to L13's three sub-plots, it's as if Patterson wrote one sub-plot (Mackie) while Paetro wrote the two others (the burger bomber and cruise ship terrorists) and then hacked and chopped to force the three together into an afternoon's read. On the plus side, the authors concluded two of the three sub-plots in storyline, which is more that I can say about the last Alex Cross novel. I would rather the editors dropped the cruise ship terrorist sub-plot (which seems to have been thrown in to take space), paid more attention to character continuity and growth, filled the blank spots and transitions in the Mackie sub-plot, and finished off the belly bomber sub-plot.

Unlucky 13 follows each member of the women’s murder club as they deal with their own encounters with criminals. LINDSAY BOXER – Lindsay is dealing with some of the most gruesome crime scenes that she has seen yet. Someone is placing capsules in food that react with stomach acid causing an explosion within the victim. They die instantly as their insides are blown out. She and her partner Conklin follow different leads that take them to a hamburger joint. With the bad guy asking for more money each time a bomb goes off and setting off bombs with greater frequency, Lindsay and Conklin have to work quick to discover who is behind it before more innocent people have to die. YUKI – Happy and in love, Yuki gets married to Brady. Everything is going great until they depart on their honeymoon. All too quickly it becomes a matter of life or death when their boat is taken over by madmen who kill an innocent passenger for every hour that goes by without them getting paid. CINDY – Mackie Morales has resurfaced, and Cindy sees this as the story of a lifetime. She takes a tip that Lindsay gives her by mistake and she runs with it, tracking Mackie halfway across the country. By the time Cindy arrives and notifies local authorities, Mackie is already back on the move. Once she discovers that Cindy is on her tail, she decides that it is finally time to get her revenge on Lindsay for being the reason her love Mr. Fish died. Will Cindy be able to warn Lindsay before her life is at stake? This one was a little different from the others in the series. I, and presumably most other fans, am used to the group working together to figure out a case. This time, they all had their own to worry about. The only exception was Claire. She was helping with the “Belly Bomb” case that Lindsay was assigned to because it was taking place in her area. That being said, it was almost like it was 3 times the thrill. It was three different storylines that all intertwined and affected each party differently. It lacked the intensity that some of the other books have, but it did not take away from the entertainment of reading it. I expected to read a little more about Lindsay’s life as a new mom, but I guess I will have to wait for #14. There was too much going on in this one for her to settle down and have time at home. I can’t believe I have to wait another year for the next one!4.5/5 stars Memorable quotes: “Darlin’, here’s to the best sex, best friends, and the best times, for the whole of your lives.”You can see more on my blog at Baumanbookreviews.com

Yet again a multi layered story with action on two or three storylines. Another very enjoyable book with different twists and a bit of terrorism thrown in too. This is a very enjoyable series, although it has changed in slant from the early books in the series.
