They're not perfect, but I'm really enjoying these books. I love Charley's humor! I wish I'd stop and write down some of the lines that crack me up as I'm listening. I especially enjoy the word play humor.

I could live without the occasional near-pornographic sex scenes, but I like that they actually play a role in the story, and with a twist (not just your typical romance).

Looking forward to listening to the next one in the series!

Third book in the Charley Davidson series. Charley is the " Grim Reaper" but earns her living as a private investigator. Darynda Jones gives the image of the "Grim Reaper" a unique and different twist from our cultural acceptance of this frightening figure. Lot's of tongue in cheek repartee that is just plain fun to read. Can't wait to read more

I love this series. Lots of action, humor, and great characters. One of my favorite side characters in this book is Wednesday. She's a little girl who follows Charlie. Sometimes she rides on the hood of her car.

Greatness again! I absolutely loved it, just as I did the first two books. The couple of twists in the end nearly floored me, but I can't wait until the fourth book comes out! I wanted to read this book again as soon as I finished it, but as it's a library book I have to return it. This is definitely the next on my to-buy list. I would recommend it for anybody who love paranormal fantasy, sci-fi, romance, comedy, and coffee!

I love love love this series!! The books are tightly written, with realistic dialogue that is both action packed and giggle out loud funny. The friendship between Charley and Cookie is extremely realistic, and their conversations are hilarious. The paranormal elements are written seamlessly into the storyline in a way that gets you excited about them instead of raising a skeptical eyebrow. I really feel attached to these characters, and sit in suspense when they are in danger and cheer for them when good things go down. I cannot wait for the next book!!

Charley gets a guardian in this book and I LOVE THIS GUARDIAN!! I am so excited about seeing more of this character! You must read this series, it is fabulous!

The third book in the series about Charley Davidson is as good as the previous ones. A lot of fun and entrainment.

Chalrley is working on the case of missing doctor's wife but the point is that the doctor probably helped her disappear for good. What's more, Reyes Farrow is really mad at her and she sees him every time she fall into sleep so she stops sleeping at all. And then he just runs out of jail and asks Charley to find the man he was accused to kill. Finally, there is also Charley's father demanding her to give up this job.

I enjoyed this story a lot. It is fun and funny, I laughed a lot. Like this little girl with a knife, it is strange but she is somehow funny. The cases are interesting and Charley is a great heroine. I only wish there is more of her interaction with Reyes. And the ending is a bit dark.

I can't wait to read another book in this series and to see what happens next. I hope that Charley and Reyes work out their problems. Even though I didn't like what he did to her.

This is the third book in the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones and I think it might actually be the best one yet! "My name is Charlotte Davidson. Charley to some, Charlotte the Harlot to others, but that was mostly in middle school."Yeah, she's got attitude, which makes her all the more loveable, and extra fun to read! Charley is the only grim reaper around, so any souls that don't move on immediately when they pass can go through her. "Apparently I was super-duper bright, like the glowing lens of a lighthouse in a storm. The departed who didn't cross when they died could see me from anywhere on Earth and, if they so chose, could cross through me to get to the other side. That was pretty much the grim reaper gig in a nutshell. No scythes. No collecting souls. No ferrying the departed across a lake day in and day out, which would probably get old."Charley and her bestie, Cookie, run a detective agency and Charley is hired to find a missing wife, but of course, it's never that easy. On top of that, Charley has an on again/off again thing with the Son of Satan himself, Reyes Farrow, and that's not going very smoothly at the moment. Throw in a biker gang and a gorgeous bond enforcement agent, and a few ghosts, and you've got yourself a party!I love this series so much because the characters are so well developed, and the plots are so well written. The pacing is always spot on, so these are very quick reads. I love the relationship between Charley and Cookie and their fun banter. The missing persons case was engaging, and I love all the little side jobs Charley gets pulled into.In summary, this is my favorite book yet of this series, and I'm already looking forward to reading the next one. I can definitely recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance stories with a good mystery and a lot of laugh out loud moments.5/5 stars. .*** I would like to thank NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Darynda Jones for the chance to read and review this book,

This series seems to get better as it goes along, unlike many series that just kind of peter out. It's funny and fun and sometimes very sad. I like all the characters and they are also becoming more fleshed out in each book, my favorite character in this book was Mistress Marigold I hope in future volumes we learn more about her.

It has been a long-ass time since I read an entire book in one afternoon. I made a special trip to the library around noon, and it's six-thirty now.

I think it's safe to say I liked this one more than the second. It was a little less jumbled, a little more on-plot. The tension flowed, and the worldbuilding developed more clearly. I think third time might have been the charm. Hope the fourth one continues the trend.

I absolutely loved this book. It was hilarious, fun and serious all at the same time. I love Charley. She's my favorite female investigator hands down. Jones upped the ante with this installment by packing it with tons of emotion and scared me to death at the end. I have been recommending this series to everybody I come across and now I'm telling you guys, read these books. They're so much fun. As usual, Lorelei King is a perfect narrator.

Ok! This book was so much better than the second one! There was so much action throughout the whole entire book. There was also so much of Charley’s dry/sarcastic humor and it’s so easy to just fall in love with all the main characters! I’m so excited to read the next book!

Third book in the Charley Davidson series and the first one I've read. Paranormal private eye Charley Davidson also just happens to be the Grim Reaper as well as having the hots for Reyes Farrow, the son of Satan. Reyes has spent ten years in prison for killing the man who subjected him to horrific abuse from childhood and Charley has managed to bind Reyes immortal body to his earthbound soul. Every time Charley falls asleep she sees Reyes so in an effort to stay awake is drinking large amounts of caffeine. When the man that Reyes was imprisoned for killing turns up very much alive, Reyes is released. Some great moments of humour make this an entertaining read.

Third in the series. Reyes is piping mad to be bound to his earthly body. Charley's dad tries to convince her to change professions from her PI business. She also meets up with the biker gang that owns the closed asylum now. This one has a lot more fun to it than the previous books, but is still non-stop action start to finish.

I won't make a long review, it's all pretty summed up in the one I did ages ago on the first book and it's still that good. Seriously, so many quotes to take out of these books I sometimes don't even know when to cut the passage of the book I wan't to keep track of. The fact that Charley's ADD is kind of transmitted throughout the book thanks to us seeing her thought process is probably one of the things I love most about these books.

If you want to give this series a go, you're in for a hell of a ride, but you're gonna love the heck outta it, promise.

PS: I'm starting to seriously like Garrett. As Charley'd say, it's quite disturbing.

Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones is a 2012 St. Martin’s Press publication. This third installment in the Charley Davidson series deals with the fallout from the controversial conclusion of book two. Let’s just say Reyes a quivering with rage and leave it at that. Meanwhile, Charley’s father tries to convince Charley to find a new occupation, while she tackles a missing persons case. Not only that, Charley faces the irony of dealing with a motorcycle gang, along with Reyes’ unrelenting advances- which leaves her living on caffeine and adrenaline. This installment settles down just a little, although it is still very chaotic. While still humorous and action packed, but the high pitched emotional edge didn’t carry over from book two. This one felt more like a standard procedural, although there were still a few very interesting developments with Reyes which includes a worrisome revelation. Reyes, is a bit too aggressive for my taste, although he has pushed the envelope of consent from the get- go. For some reason, that really stood out in this third book, and made me squirm a little. Other than that, this is still a solid addition to the series, and I’m still on board for book four. 3.5 stars

As a fan of this series, I was shocked that I struggled with this book. It seemed that I was stuck and treading and treading in water but not getting anywhere. Which in a way this is what happened to me. I found myself reading a few pages at a time. After finally getting a third of the way into the book I skipped ahead a bit. The rest of my reading went this way with skimming the book. What I found is that while I love Charley, she seemed off some in this book. She was not her usual sarcastic self. Plus, I had not found myself laughing one moment yet in the time that I did read the book in the first third. The storyline moved slowly and there needed to be more Reyes.

Third Grave Dead Ahead
3.5 Stars

A solid story and likable characters but the snarky humor is starting to get old.

Charley is a great heroine - strong willed, witty and sarcastic. She is, however, having some problems with the men in her life - Reyes is having some anger management issues (that tends to happen when you bind someone against their will), her father is suffering from an overdose of guilt, Garrett's desire to strangle her is reaching epic proportions, and Owen Vaughn still hates her with a vengeance although we do finally find out why. Thanks goodness for UB and the Biker Dudes or Charley might have to go into witness protection.

The plot revolves around two mysteries - one new: the disappearance of a doctor's wife, and one ongoing: is the man Reyes was sent to prison for killing actually still alive? Both storylines are action packed and interesting with the latter leading to a heart pounding climax and a couple of twists I just didn't see coming.

All in all, the Charley Davidson series is extremely entertaining and is a must read for fans of dark, sexy and tortured heroes. Yes, Reyes has his anti-hero, assholic moments but I, for one, can't help loving the unpredictability of his character. Looking forward to Charley finding out what she's capable of.

This is the third book in the Charley Davidson series. Each book of this series gets better and better; Jones is doing so much right with this urban fantasy series. Right now there are ten books in this series with the eleventh book, Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, expected to release in Jan 2017.I have been listening to this book on audiobook and the narrator does an awesome job on narrating this series. Lorelei King IS Charley, she sounds exactly like I imagine Charley would and does an wonderful job with other characters’ voices and with conveying emotion. If you like to listen to audiobooks I would highly recommend listening to this series on audiobook.A lot happens in this book. Charley and Reyes are on the outs but somehow every time Charley falls asleep Reyes is there angry and yet...wanting. To solve this issue Charley has decided not to sleep...at all...for weeks at a time. Things get more complicated when Charley starts working on a missing person’s case and Reyes escapes from prison. These books are written in a way that is witty and funny (sometimes a bit over-the-top eye-rolling funny...but in a good way). I love Charley and her quirky way of misinterpreting what people say...that and her extremely humorous view on death in general. Reyes is amazing and frustrating and dangerous all at once and I am glad we got to see more of him in this book than we did in the last book.Again in this book Charley figures out a little bit more about her awesome Grim Reaper powers. I also loved that she gets a Guardian as well (and no it’s not who you think it might be). There are so many things that Jones is doing right in this series. I love the mystery, the action, the humor, the characters, the teasing, and growth Charley goes through. The way she handles Charley being the Grim Reaper is extremely cool as well. I just can’t wait to see where this series is going.Overall this was an amazing continuation of this series. The book is incredibly engaging and hard to stop reading. I love the characters, the mystery, and the action. The humor is incredibly refreshing and fun; Charley is so quirky and weird that you just have to love her. I would recommend to those who enjoy UF/PNR that is on the lighter side. This series reminds a bit of Molly Harper’s Jane Jameson series.

In this third installment, Charley is at her funniest and yet most serious. As the story starts, Charley is trying desperately not to sleep . . . because when she does, all she sees is Reyes . . . and he doesn't want to just cuddle! She is involved in solving a missing person case with a too-perfect husband, a former football player brother, and a worried sister. Of course, there are demons to battle as they try to get to Charley, the most powerful grim reaper ever. Charley also finds out more about the bikers who own the run-down asylum where Rocket and his sister, Blue hang out. This book is fast moving, answers some of the questions I've had since the first book, and gives even more to think about. I can't wait for the next book!

4.5 Charley, The Grim Reaper, she has what every women wants Reyes Farrow. A man so hot so gorgeous legs weaken just looking at him. She has a family- a father who loves her, a sister who ? , and an Uncle. Then there are her friends, Cookie her trusted side kick, Angel the departed gang-banger, Mr Wong in the corner, the dead girl with the knife and Garret. Her dream job as a PI.
Oh, but not all is good in Charley land. Reyes escapes from prison, and gets her to help him. Pain, suffering and extreme torture, are part of the deal. She get bruised and battered down to often, does everyone have to damage her ? It's not all physical- Someone is going to die, someone she cares about, and it's partially her fault. Her trusts will be betrayed and her future with Reyes is in doubt. She drinks copious amounts of coffee staying awake for days, because sleep is not restful. Broken from the inside out it is a painful ride.
Charley never forget her humor, even in the darkest moments she clamps onto it for her sanity. Being the Reaper is not a light hearted job, and she works hard to keep balance. In the end, this might just be the tip of the Iceberg, something terrible is on the horizon.
Wow, so much happened to Charley in this book. It really is hard to watch, betrayed by the ones you love.Is there anything worse ? My heart hurt for her character. It ended with a cliffhanger light. The next books looks like it will be another whirlwind like this one.

This was good & suspenseful.... Charley is the Grim Reaper who happens to be in love w/ Reyes who happens to be the son of Satan......

He is the key to Apocalypse and she is the one who ferries stuck souls back across the light (such a perfect pair).

She is after the man who abused Reyes as a child (who faked his own death), as well as psychopathic Doctor who has severely hurt & murdered the friends & family of those women who sought freedom from their relationships with him.....

There are ghosts, bikers, bag guys, tails..... Very much action....

What a great book. I started it and couldn't put it down until it was finished. I was hesitant about the premise - Charley can't go to sleep. I was afraid it would be painful to read - but that wasn't the case in the slightest. I found myself holding my breath during parts of the story, and although there were places where the reading of the story was difficult - truly painful for the characters at times - the humour never lets up and I love Charley's sense of humour. The comedic banter she exchanges with many of the characters - especially her BF Cookie, makes me laugh out loud.

I truly hope I do not have to wait another year for the fourth one. I'll be re-reading the three I have in the meantime.
