Dr. Seuss
Theodor Seuss Geisel – better known to his millions of fans as Dr. Seuss – was born the son of a park superintendent in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1904. After studying at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, and later at Oxford University in England, he became a magazine humorist and cartoonist, and an advertising man. He soon turned his many talents to writing children’s books, which included the creation of the one and only ‘The Cat in the Hat’, published in 1957.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This audiobook had 12 classic Dr. Seuss tales including my absolute favorite tale, The Lorax". This was a great audiobook because, of course, the stories stand the test of time. But it was also great because of the quality of narrators overall. The stories were read by the likes of Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammar, Dustin Hoffman and John Lithgow. You could tell by the narration that the narrators were truly enjoying the stories and were reading as if they were sharing this beloved story with their own child.
" - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Cat in the Hat comes in on a rainy day and makes a huge mess for the brother and the sister with the help of Thing 1 and Thing 2. Just as the mother is pulling up and things seem impossible to clean up, the Cat does the impossible and leaves the house just as spotless as it was before his existence. This is a funny and adventurous classic that can be read over and over again.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic recording! Kelsey Grammer and John Lithgow are the highlights. Surprising letdown was Dustin Hoffman reading Horton Hears a Who. His cadence was off so much it's hard to listen.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I selected to listen to Horton Hears a Who read by Dustin Hoffman. I was not prepared for what I heard. There were positives and negatives from this audio of Horton Hears a Who. First I am a big fan of Dustin Hoffman (Midnight Cowboy) so I came in already with a mind set that was favorable. While following the story I was glad that there was background sounds/music/noises that was accompanying Hoffman's voice. A bit long of a track at over 16 minutes for the story. Hoffman's voice was too over the place, too many different voices one sounded more like count Dracula than Horton. It was ok but it felt and sounded a bit cheesy, not the best but something different which is a good thing. I do give Hoffman credit for trying to be engaging, entertaining, and funny but it just seemed to fall a bit short. I would recommend cd-audio children's book for a couple of reasons, it is good to mix it up and bring in a different media, and I am sure children will be drawn to the mysterious words coming from the speakers.Ages 1 and up.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This collection, read by a bevy of talented actors, comprises the following: The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back read by Kelsey GrammerHorton Hears a Who read by Dustin HoffmanHow the Grinch Stole Christmas read by Walter MatthauDid I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? read by John CleeseThe Lorax read by Ted DansonYertle the Turtle, Gertrude McFuzz, and The Big Brag read by John LithgowThidwick, the Big-Hearted Moose read by Mercedes McCambridgeHorton Hatches the Egg read by Billy CrystalI won't write a review for each of the stories, but will just say that I had never before experienced Dr. Seuss this way before, having always read the physical book with those wonderful illustrations as a child, and must say that I was amazed by how entertaining I found this collection, though it must be said that it helps that the narration is conducted by professional actors who have all proved their worth as comic talents. As I mentioned on another thread, hearing him now as an adult, I can recognize where some of my deepest held beliefs about right and wrong, fairness and equality, animal advocacy and even democracy were first put into words. My absolute favourites were probably The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back (no big surprise there), and this was closely followed by Yertle the Turtle, Gertrude McFuzz, The Big Brag and Horton Hears a Who.
