Incredible book. The perspective presented about how to chase your dreams is incredible. The encouragement that it's ok to be aggressive and powerful sometimes. Definitely a recomendation.

Wow! Pastor Mark was great from start to finish. Book is so rich in content. Pastor has such a great poetic manner in which he’ll keep you glue to the book. Very insightful material from real life experience.

I am not Christian, because I believe in the Dao, but this book is definitely worth the read! Wonderful messages and lessons.

Success happens when opportunity meets preparedness.

This is such a great book. I've read it several times. Too often people miss what God wants them to do. Then there are those who know what God wants them to do, but feel inadequate for the task ahead and, as a result, either fail or never attempt to move forward in God's plans. Then there are those who chase lions...

This book had some great things to say about making the most of every opportunity, but it was incredibly repetitive. I feel like the whole book could have been condensed to one chapter. Regardless, it challenged me to view my problems and challenges as opportunities to see God.

Laced with personal stories from Batterson’s work at National Community Church (Washington, DC), In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day offers inspiration for overcoming fears, taking risks, and seizing opportunities for the glory of God. Although exegetically shallow, Batterson seizes on an obscure biblical reference (2 Sam. 23:20-21) as his central metaphor for risk, opportunity, and faith. Often times, Batterson argues, our greatest fears can become our greatest opportunities to live out the adventure of faith. B+

Any book that draws me into the story of the author - NOT just a bunch of talk about other people - but stories from the author’s real-life really brings me satisfaction in book-reading!Mark Batterson is the founding pastor of National Community Church in Washington DC. The stories from Mark’s life littered throughout the chapters of the book build the theme of the book into a more-doable lifestyle. The book revolves around the story of Benaiah from 2 Samuel 23. It’s a story of Benaiah literally jumping after a lion in a pit and killing him. Pretty gruesome, pretty intense - pretty great reminder of ‘lions’ in our lives that we need to jump on and kill!

The title of this book, based like The Prayer of Jabez on a fairly obscure passage and character in scripture, is very clever. The book calls or encourages the reader to risk more for God. But the tone is an annoying blend of perky/preachy. (It might preach better than it reads). I enjoyed about 10% of the book, and found about three pages helpful. Maybe other readers will find it more inspiring and respond more favorably.

What a gift this book is for anyone who is struggling with how to break out of patterns of living that hold you back from experiencing all the life altering opportunities God has waiting for you.
