About this audiobook
For the first time as an Orbit special edition, Brent Weeks's blockbuster novella Perfect Shadow tells the origin story of the Night Angel trilogy's most enigmatic character: Durzo Blint. Also includes the short story, I, Nightangel.
Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He's also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he's worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity, and all too often he's become a hero, his very names passing into legend: Acaelus Thorne, Yric the Black, Hrothan Steelbender, Tal Drakkan, Rebus Nimble.
But when Gaelan must take a job hunting down the world's finest assassins for the beautiful courtesan-and-crimelord Gwinvere Kirena, what he finds may destroy everything he's ever believed in.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This prequel to Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy explains the origins of Durzo Blint. The story is fast paced and very entertaining if you enjoyed any of the original trilogy. At points the story seems a little erratic, which causes one to re-read sections, but the actions and overall plot make up for the small confusions.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a great short novel following prior characters from Mr. Weeks's novels. It was somewhat of a prequel telling how an assassin became as good as he is in the current series and provided key points of explanation about how things came to be as they are now. I am a huge fan of Brent Weeks and recommend his writing to anyone who enjoys a fast paced and thrilling read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you have read the Night Angel trilogy then this short story will make sense to you. I need to go or should say want to reread them.A assassin who sees glimpses of the future saw he was being killed by forty men all at once. The story bounces around a lot in Durzo Blint past over the last few hundred alives and a little about who he was or is. The choices he made at different times and why he keeps living and changing who he is and what he looks like. I liked it but wished it was longer look into his different lives.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was warned that this novella wasn't anything special. I knew what I was getting myself into. I think the novella could have been much better if each time skip was more noticeably a time skip. And the flashbacks were more noticeably flashbacks. They weren't always clear, which causes some confusion. Also there is nothing phenomenal, nothing that really effects the series this is prequel to. It's just a short story leading up to how Durzo becomes Durzo and even that isn't fully explained; why he has to change all the sudden. What this novella did do for me is make me realize I want to reread the Night Angel trilogy again and soon. Maybe worth it if you're a die herd fan of the series. It's very short, doesn't take all that long to read through. An hour maybe. :)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I've praised Weeks previous works because of his mastery of managing secrets and plot lines. But the shortness of this work did not allow it to unfold with the typical magic Weeks usually brings to the table.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was well read, but not well suited to reading since it skips back & forth through time a lot. The narrator made no indication of such breaks (They never do for some unknown reason.) so I got a bit lost at times.
This seems to be the introduction & history of the main character of the series. Considering that it was basically a big info dump, it was quite interesting & very well done. Still, it was an info dump, a character sketch. A very interesting character & an interesting magical system. I look forward to listening to more of the series.
I liked the first of Weeks' Lightbringer series which I read in paper format. I have the 2d book, but haven't read it since I'm waiting for the 3d. My wife enjoyed both, though.
