Author

Jules Feiffer

Jules Feiffer's artistic sensibility permeates a wide range of creative work, from his Pulitzer-winning comic strip in the Village Voice, to his Obie Award-winning play Little Murders, to his Oscar-winning anti-military short subject animation, Munro, to his beloved illustrations for The Phantom Tollbooth. Feiffer’s cartoons have appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, Playboy, and The Nation, and he was commissioned by The New York Times to create its first op-ed page comic strip which ran monthly until 2000, when Feiffer decided to start off the new millennium by giving up cartooning. Taking inspiration from his three daughters spanning three generations, he has reinvented himself as a children’s book author. His first book, The Man in the Ceiling, was selected by Publisher’s Weekly and the New York Public Library as one of the year’s best children’s books. A former instructor at the Yale School of Drama and Northwestern University, Feiffer is now an adjunct professor at Southampton College, a member of the Dramatists Guild Council and has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. This is his first book with Houghton Mifflin.

I love the realism in the story through a child's point of view.

I loved this story!!! This story reminds me of my son. He loves his lovey bears!! The little girl in the story "looks" high and low for her bear. She even asks her sister for help, in the end its in her BED!! I would use this story for teaching "looking" skills, talking about attachment, and flexibility. It also has great pictures, expression and simple illustrations. Grades preK-4 for character building but 5+ for story writing skill building.

This children's book is about a little girl who can not find her lost bear. Her family does not help her because they believe she must use it as a lesson and find it herself so that she will stop loosing her stuff. As she looks for her lost bear her sister gives her idea that helps her find other things she lost. Eventually, she finds the bear in her bed and becomes happy again. This story includes many pictures that allows students reading it to empathize with the girl. These descriptive and detailed pictures makes this book a very good children's picture book.

Oh, the heartbreak! Especially when none of the rest of family is sympathetic, and their suggestions aren't helpful. Until the big sister takes pity, and, eventually, her suggested strategy is, in a roundabout manner, effective. A little on the long side, but the gamut of emotions that are powerfully presented by the artist's different designs are all important. I especially liked how nobody tried to soothe her temper tantrum, so she stopped herself from crying.
