John Flanagan

Trish Purnell-Webb is an Australian clinical psychologist who became the first certified Gottman therapist in Australia in 2013. She then continued her training to become the first master trainer and consultant for the Gottman Institute in Australia in 2015. She has been in private practise as a psychologist since 1997 after a twenty-year career in organisational training and development in both government and corporate organisations while also raising three children with the help of her husband, Mark. Trish has always been fascinated by the impact relationships have on our sense of well-being and satisfaction, whether they are work relationships or intimate relationships. In her work providing executive coaching to senior members of organisations throughout Australia, she came to understand that intimate relationships had a profound effect on an individual’s ability to perform in life. This led her to explore the question “How can we help people have more successful relationships?” It also led her to the research work of John and Julie Gottman, and her fate was sealed. Since 2009, Trish has focussed on working with couples both in her private practise in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, Australia, and on training therapists throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Asia to become more effective in successfully working with couples. Along with her business partner, John, Trish also runs couple workshops across Australia and New Zealand using the evidenced-based Art and Science of Love Couples Workshop developed by John and Julie Gottman. Trish conceived of this book as a resource for couples to use as a relapse prevention tool after they complete either a workshop or couples therapy with Gottman-trained therapists. Trish still lives on the Gold Coast with her husband of forty-one years and is the proud grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren to whom she devotes much of her time. John Flanagan is a mental health accredited social worker in private practise, completing his bachelor’s of social work in 1988 and later a master’s in gestalt therapy. He was the first social worker to become a certified Gottman therapist in Australia in 2015, and he became the second master trainer and consultant in 2019. John has had an extensive history in direct service delivery with couples, families, and young people, as well as in organisational development and training. He has developed a practise that utilises a range of experiential therapies combining these approaches in his work style. John has also completed his Certificate IV in workplace training and assessment and has delivered a broad range of training, both accredited and non-accredited. John knows the incredible value in attending to relationships, as well as the importance of how they are formed, maintained and developed. In over thirty years of working within complex environments and relationships, he has developed a strong speciality in understanding and guiding complex interactions and relationships. He has provided training to many individuals and human service organisations in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the United States about creating positive work cultures, managing challenging clients, resilience, and communication. Over the last twenty years, John has provided a range of psycho-educational group programs to Australian veterans and their families in areas such as trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and resilience.

Another great book in one of my favorite series of all time. This time, we get to learn quite a bit more about Halt and get an up-close look at his brother, though we do once again get dropped off at a major cliffhanger which leaves one wanting to rush right to the next book.

This one is my favorite in this series, so far, because it's a faster read and more exciting than the others. The story and conflict are very good too.

Fast-paced plot, lovable characters, page-turning action, evil bad guys--all of these qualities are ones that Flanagan manages to bring to his books time and time again, and "The Kings Clonmel" is certainly no exception. Readers will find themselves caught up in Will, Halt, and Horace's adventure as they must defeat a new enemy that threatens the peace of their homeland and will discover shocking secrets revealed in the process. Although the enemies in this book aren't quite as engaging as the ones in past installments, Flanagan still delivers another solid read that will leave readers anxiously awaiting to continue the series. Definitely recommend "The Kings of Clonmel"!

This is the eighth book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. There are ten books total in the series. If you have enjoyed the previous books in this series, then you will enjoy this one as well. When Will arrives at the yearly Ranger’s Gathering he finds that Halt is missing. Halt is in the west investigating a mysterious religious cult called the Outsiders that is affecting the stability of the kingdom of Clonmel. Will and Horace are asked to go and assist Halt in dealing with the threat. This book was very much like all the previous books in this series. It was a solid and well done fantasy with humorous banter between the characters. Will, Halt, and Horace are fun to read about. The plot is very much like other plots in this series. This is a problem in a kingdom that needs to be dealt with; our trio goes and deals with it. Along the way there are some twists and turns that put them in tough situations and they need to use their wits and talents to figure out a solution. There is one additional thing in this book that makes things a bit more interesting. In this story we learn a lot about Halt’s history, where he comes from, and who his family is. It was fun to learn about Halt’s past and get some more background on him. Although I found the background as to why Halt left his family to be a bit unrealistic when you consider who Halt is and how he normally acts.I was a bit disappointed that none of the girls feature in this story. I have enjoyed having Alyss or Cassandra as part of the story. I also thought that there really wasn’t as much character development in this book as in previous books. Will is grown and seems a bit stagnant. Horace was more witty than in previous books but outside of that he was the same old Horace. Even Halt seems a bit tired throughout the story. This book is the first half of a story that will be continued into book 9. As with previous books, this is a well written but not super creative story.Overall another solid addition to this series. It was great to learn about Halt’s past. The witty banter between the characters is highly entertaining. I didn’t think there was as much character development as in previous books. In general this is a solid traditional adventure fantasy that should appeal to a middle grade and older audience.

Another fine addition to the ongoing ranger's Apprentice Saga. While I DID enjoy it, there was something about this one that didn't quite grab me as much as the previous efforts. It seemed a bit more on the predictable side, and it felt like it was lacking something. Maybe it was the lack of any real female presence. So for me, good, but not GREAT!I still love the series and recommend it to friends all the time.

This book was written by John Flanagan. This book is about a young Ranger named Will, who chasing after a cult of "religious" fanatics who aim to go back to Araluen with Clomnel as their port. As Will and the other characters meet together at a restaurant, (Alyss, Jenny, Horace, Crowley, and eventually Halt) come together and Halt reveals that he's actually supposed to be the king of Hibernia (which is in the Clomnel area). He quit after his younger brother tried again and again to kill him for it. As they travel to Hibernia, they hear rumors about Tennyson, the preacher (AKA: the leader of the "religious" cult) spreading word about their "great god". They foil a plan made by Tennyson intending the complete destruction of a major town with another "legend" of their own. When they meet/confront (

Couldn't put it down! The Rangers are up against a religious cult in the neighboring kingdom of Clonmel this time -- a cult that promises divine protection from bands of murdering criminals. The people of Clonmel are desperate since their king appears weak and useless, and they are willing to give up their gold to get that protection. But the cult is not what it appears, and Halt, Will and Horace work against them to expose the lies, fraud and theft... and it leads up to a battle like never before for Horace! Action and adventure, great plot with lots of twists. This is one of our most popular series -- great stuff! Grade 6 and up.

Will, Horace, and Halt are sent to Hibernia to foil the plan of the Outsiders before they take over that country and turn their sites on Araluen. We learn some surprising background on Halt and get a chance to see Will and Horace as they get more used to being adults. Their relationship with Halt evoked laughter on more than one occasion. The book is also filled with adventure and daring deeds. It was a great 8th episode in the Ranger's Apprentice series.Over all this book is great. The book has alot of spoilers near the end and some intense battles. If your ready for a cult against another cult watchout for this book. I love how Halt finally tells Horace how they were going to get into the castle he says "The kings is my brother" Halt said flatly. I just love it overall a 5/5.

Can't help it; I love this series. In book 8 we find out that Halt has a despicable brother who is actually a king. Halt has to impersonate him at one point because his brother doesn't have the backbone to do what should be done. This book mostly features Halt, Horace and Will. Not much romance, and not as much nail biting, but still plenty of action and intrigue. I'm glad the series isn't ending. I'm certain there are going to be more.

Another great story by John Flanagan. Again, I couldn't stop reading. I like it that Flanagan treats his series as a whole, ie he regularly refers to the other books. His characters have been through a lot, and this reflects in their behaviour. They have become deep characters. What annoys me a little bit, is that Will and Horace become more and more like superheroes. They are literally unbeatable. I wonder whether Flanagan is going to do something with that. In the first books, the fights are exciting, you hope they will survive. Now, the excitement is a bit gone. Because they never lose a fight, I am more and more tempted to skip parts of the book. However, I admire the knowledge of Flanagan and his talent to write a series of books that is one whole.
