About this audiobook

Life was tragic enough before this spring started. With a distinct lack of boobage and an arse so big that birds of prey could nest within its shadows, Jess Jordan is saddled with the Goddess Flora for a best friend, a Britney Spears look-alike so gorgeous that one grain of her divine dandruff could make the blind see again. Jess knows that her soul mate is Ben Jones, a divine mixture of Leonardo DiCaprio, Prince William, and Brad Pitt who oozes mystery and charisma. But the campaign to get Ben to notice her brings on a cavalcade of mortification and disaster, including, but not limited to, a minestrone soup explosion that takes place in her bra and a schoolwide viewing of a videotape that features a topless Jess referring to her breasts as "Bonnie" and "Clyde."

Meanwhile, Jess's death-obsessed granny moves into her bedroom, along with her grandfather's remains; her hypochondriac dad, who sends her daily "horrorscopes" like "You will fall asleep with your mouth open, and a family of earwigs will move in," acts strange about Jess staying with him this summer; and her longtime friend Fred, a television violence addict and closet thumbsucker, has decided that he can't stand being around her. Jess is determined to make things right . . . but with her offbeat sense of humor and her wildly active imagination, things get complicated along the way.

Not a bad coming of age book, but for me it lacked substance and humour. I think it might have been better if Jess had told the story rather than having a third person narration. I could see similarities to Bridget Jones but for a much younger audience.

Okay, Jess is cute, but I do think she could become annoying.

Arch and amusing. Limb sometimes seems to be writing for an adult audience. Silly plot that manages to be universal. I read several bits aloud.

This is actually the second time I've read this, but I enjoyed it even more this time. This would be great for those who love the Georgia Nicholson books even though it's not in a diary style. Now I have to try and get my hands on the other two in this trilogy.

I honestly had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book at the library. I just glanced at the back read a little of the synopsis and said, “Sure, why not”. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the witty repartee of Jess, especially with ‘longtime friend Fred’. Jess had a huge imagination that leaked over into real her life in so many ways. It was a refreshing change of pace reading this obviously British book because of the different terms and slang used throughout the story. The storyline was predictable, but light-hearted fun. Jess was a little frustrating as a character, as I kept having to remind myself she was only 15 and I am sure at that age I was not the brightest light-bulb in the box either. The writing style flowed well and the storyline was easy to follow. Even though this book is about a fifteen year old I would recommend it for older teens and up because it does have underage drinking and the occasional crude comment or sexual reference.

This is the story of Jess Jordan, a funny girl who thinks she has a huge bum and disproportionately small chest. Flora, her best friend, on the other hand is perfect – she is beautiful and popular. Jess has a crush on the unattainable Ben Johnson (B.J.), and Flora is going out with his best friend. Jess is also friends with Ben (a nerd, obsessed with violent movies, and into film noir). Each chapter begins with a funny text-message horoscope from Jess’s father (a hypochondriac artist who lives in St. Ives). Jess’s mother is a feminist librarian who constantly protests against war (most of the time, she is a source of embarrassment). This book tackles issues of body image, popularity, love, and adolescent drama with humor. After Flora ends her relationship with B.J.’s best friend, she confesses that she has a crush on Fred, and asks Jess to see if Fred is possibly interested in her. Although the ending is somewhat predictable, it will delight readers (specially those rooting for Fred).

A wonderful coming of age comedy that tickles the funny bone and warms the heart.

This book makes the reader really understand what Jess, the main character, is thinking, using really funny ways to describe things.

This book seemed so off hand and silly, but sometimes that's just what you need. It started out immediately with a situation that made me want to call and accuse the girl who recommended it to me of reading my personal diary; which is always strange.

What a fantastic book... I laughed all the way through it. This is the first book by Sue Limb I have read, but I will definitely check out more now. The characters were interesting and there was never a dull moment.

Jess, a 15 year old, being raised by her divorced mother, is experiencing typical teenage drama. She attacks her teen challenges with clever humor and wit. Each chapter begins with a bizarre horoscope text messaged by her absent dad which fuels her imaginary scenarios. The book was written in the same style as "Bridget's Diary" which was appealing. Some of the British humor may miss the audience. This book would be useful for girls experiencing their first crushes and/or feeling ackward in social settings.

As if having your minestrone soup filled bra inserts explode all over you and teen god Weezer isn’t bad enough, having the aftermath captured on film by a camera hidden in the loo most certainly must be the worst thing ever to have happened to fifteen year-old Jess Jordan. In her attempt to get her hands on the offending video she must fend off the advances of dreamy Ben, cajole her tone-deaf best friend Flora through a band rehearsal and sing the praises of oddball Fred. Told with laugh-out-loud humor and a healthy dollop of sweetness this story of teen angst is pure fun.

This was a pretty fab book for a Young Adult novel. Jess, the main character is very funny and over dramatic. Very Bridget Jones-ish.

There's a lot of average chick lit for teens out there - but this one is fantastic. Jess Jordan is a truly loveable and entertaining character of the Bridget Jones/Elizabeth Bennet ilk, with whom we share the glorious highs and hideously embarrassing lows of being 15. Addictive reading - I loved this book and didn't want it to end!
