About this audiobook

The tree is decorated, the cookies are baked, and the packages are wrapped, but the biggest celebration this Christmas is Gaby Summerhill's wedding. Since her husband died three years ago, Gaby's four children have drifted apart, each consumed by the turbulence of their own lives. They haven't celebrated Christmas together since their father's death, but when Gaby announces that she's getting married--and that the groom will remain a secret until the wedding day--she may finally be able to bring them home for the holidays.

But the wedding isn't Gaby's only surprise--she has one more gift for her children, and it could change all their lives forever. With deeply affecting characters and the emotional twists of a James Patterson thriller, The Christmas Wedding is a fresh look at family and the magic of the season.

Gabby is a middle aged woman who is proposed to by 3 men. She does not tell anyone (including the men) who she is going to marry until Christmas Day (the wedding date). She is self-absorbed and tells people, you will just have to come to see who I marry all in an effort to get her children to all come to the wedding. I found the plot and character development lacking.

A widowed woman gets wedding proposals from her three closest male friends and then leaves them all in suspense when she decides she wants to get married on Christmas Day so all of her children will have to come home to the family farm for the holiday. But she won't tell anyone who the groom will be, including the groom. There are good guys in this world but I cannot imagine three men who would put up with this ridiculous, pointless scheme. The rest of the story involves what each of the kids is going through in their adult lives. Everyone gets a happy ending, of course. Contains some detailed gourmet food descriptions for foodies but the romance is so cut and dried, it's a bore - exactly the opposite of what you'd expect from a love quadrangle. By the end of this very short book with way too many chapters (Patterson's trademark style), the reader probably won't care whom she chooses.

The beginning was very nice to read, good build of characters, found their life stories very interesting. I was also very curious to find out who Gaby would marry. Though the story is quite short it really grabbed my attention. However, the second half of the book (or should i say as of "book 2" within the book, it got rather boring and too fast paced. Everything happened so fast, so many people, so little time. Couldnt really get into it and felt rushed through the story line. Also the reveal of whom she would marry held no suspense whatsoever, all of a sudden it was decided and that was that. Rather disappointed at the ending of the book, was hoping for a little more romance and warmth towards the end.

Every year during the month of December our book club reads a holiday themed book, and this year we chose The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson. I can tell you up front that overall our group did not enjoy this book, and not much of it really even had anything to do with Christmas. I enjoy books that have a realistic theme, and considering the main plot was Gaby's wedding, her marriage to one of three men, whom only she would reveal until the actual wedding, was very unbelievable to me.Gaby has had close friendships with three different men and each one proposed to her. They were all wonderful men with endearing qualities, and I couldn't imagine them following along with her plan either. So they are all going to stand at the altar until she walks down the aisle to let them know which one she chooses? That is the silliest thing I've every heard. I did enjoy the stories of Gaby's children much more. They all seemed to live realistic lives with problems I'm sure most of us could relate to. Until they get invited to this silly wedding anyway, and support their mother whole-heartedly. Maybe some more character development could have been done to help me understand Gaby and accept her decisions. We have usually found Christmas books do not have a lot of depth and this one definitely fits right into that category. With themes of family, love and Christmas you may find more enjoyment from this book than I did. If you are a Patterson fan, you may want to pick this one up, keeping in mind that it isn't his usual action packed thriller, but a goofy romance. As much as I didn't enjoy this book, I have to admit that I didn't hate it either, but I definitely would not suggest it as a book club selection.

I have read every one for James Patterson's romance novels. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas was, of course, the most spectacular and it's a novel I can read over and over again and be moved by the sheer emotion of it eacn and every time. The others are not very memorable. In fact I completely forget what Sam's Letters for Jennifer is about and hope to get a chance to reread it. But still, when I saw The Christmas Wedding in Kmart I was drawn to it and picked it up. It's a short read, it took me about a day and a half though had I done nothing but read the book it would have taken me about a day.The book is about a woman whose husband passed away three years ago. Now three different men have proposed to her. All of them are very good friends of hers. She knows she will marry one of them and she decides that this is the perfect chance to get all of her children together again for the first time since the death of her husband. She sends out videos to each of her children telling them that they are invited to her wedding on Christmas Day and that no one will know who the groom is until the day of the wedding. Not even the groom himself. But her children have their own issues that they are facing and getting up to their mother's farm might be difficult for some of them. Told from the perspective of all the children and their mother this story teaches about how family can be there to see you through life's greatest hardships. How love can find you at any time in your life. A touching romance by James Patterson. I will definitely continue to grab up all of his romance novels from now on.

My bookclub read this book over the Christmas holidays as it was to be a "quick read" during the busy holiday season. For a James Patterson book I expected more substance from the book and was disappointed. I can't say the characters were all that likeable either. It was definitely a quick read though.

I liked how each chapter focused on the different characters and how the book keeps you guessing as to who the lucky groom is! Finished in one setting! Great romance novel, but now as good as his other 3!

It is hard to find the words to review this book. I hated pretty much every character in it. There is the over-indulgent bride who expected not only family member to donate their Christmas plans, but also all the caterers, musicians, servers, etc., to have to work all Christmas day and late into evening to produce this event. Also, a teenager appears to have a very real substance abuse issue, which is patently obvious to several adults, but blindly ignored. And what three saps would allow this crazy lady to publicly choose who her husband will be at the alter? Seriously, those men needed some sense of self worth and pride.Characters were just over the top selfish or one dimensional or both. But, I did stay with the novel until the very end, so there must have been some sort of entertainment value to pull me along. Indeed, it was easy to follow and also, there was an interest to see how the whole thing came off. Geez, what a bunch of loathsome people. I am glad they are not my family.

I enjoyed listening to this audio book about family and relationships. This book is mostly written in dialogue and is easily adapted to an audio book. The story involves a widow preparing for her wedding to one of three men. The mystery is which of the three men will be the groom. Gaby Summerhill has requested her four children to attend her wedding. The story highlights the problems of each of the children, but shows that redemption can be found. The story deviates from Patterson's crime and mystery novels in that this does not contain evil. A wonderful story about the family, but lacks the depth needed for the relationships.

Gabby is a middle age widow who has packed on the pounds after her husband died three years ago. Her four children have drifted apart and she sends them all a dvd to invite them to spend the holidays and attend her wedding on Christmas day. She doesn't tell the children who she is marrying, but tells them to come home to find out. There are sections of the book dedicated to each child, so you get a background for each of them. I guess you have to take this story with a grain of salt since I couldn't imagine any mother marrying someone with her children (even if they are adults) to not meet this man before the occasion. But for the story's sake, it does make it plausible. Over all a quick read and perfect for the season.

This book was pretty good. The story was interesting - a mysterious wedding, a few unexpected twists and turns, and a good mix of mushy and humorous. The character development was a bit lax, but I think that added to this story a bit. There were so many important characters that had they all been well-developed, like Gaby, this book would have been horrendous to read. And the lax in development added even more to the intrigue of who is Gaby going to marry? I did like the children. Claire was probably my favorite though. I'm not sure why I connected with her, even more so than with Gaby, but I did. I've never really been through any of what Claire goes through in this book, but the connection was there nonetheless.I have to say I was a bit shocked that Patterson was doing a romance story, or "Love Story" as it says on the back cover. Although that's probably more from my lack of following his works, as it appears he has a few of them. In true Patterson fashion there was mystery and intrigue surrounding the whole thing. It was very well balanced between the mystery story and the love story. In the past I have been a bit critical of Patterson's novels because they, while entertaining and engaging, tend to be a bit predictable. I thought I had a good idea of who Gaby was going to marry about halfway through, but I was wrong. She picked my second guess :-)Overall it was a pretty good story. I enjoyed reading it. It was a very quick read also. It took me less than two days to finish it. Partly because I wanted to know who she was going to marry and partly because it was pretty fast paced. This book was provided to me for review. This has in no way influenced my review. This review is truthful, honest, and is my sincere opinion.

Does anyone else feel like Patterson keeps cranking out (supposedly co-written) anemic books knowing they'll sell simply because his name is on the cover? I was worried that this book would be exceedingly saccharine Sundays at Tiffany's, and it was. This book has an unbelievable plot (if you can actually call it that), with characters that are even more contrived, and then the whole mess is haphazardly sprinkled with pop-culture references that feel more like name-dropping product placement. Drivel.

Gaby Summerhill's family hasn't been together for Christmas since her husband Peter died, but that's about to change. You see Gaby has been proposed to by three men, and the thing is she is going to have a Christmas wedding, and she isn't going to to disclose who the groom will be until the wedding. So the only way her children, Emily, Claire Lizzie and Seth will know who she is marrying is to come home for Christmas. I loved getting to know Gaby's children. Each of them were dealing with their own issues making this an interesting story. One was having marital troubles, one had a husband fighting cancer, another is a very successful lawyer who is married but puts in way to much time at her job, and finally one is trying to get a book published. Each child's story would have made for an interesting book in itself but roll them together and it made the plot of this book move along nonstop. I loved the plan Gaby came up with to get her children home, an idea that was totally new, hooking me, making me wonder myself who she would marry. There was even a twist thrown in that actually surprised me. Overall if you enjoy family stories where the family seems as real as a your next door neighbors, and want to feel a bit of the magic of the holiday season then your going to want to pick this book up. Normally when I think of James Patterson I think of action packed thrillers, but he can certainly pull of a nice Christmas time family story as well. Highly recommended! *A complimentary copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.*

This book is a nice, easy Christmas read. I was a little disappointed at the lack of character development - there were several characters introduced that I felt I would like to get to know better - but didn't get the opportunity to (including the main character, Gaby). I wish that the book had fewer characters - with more depth to each. I did enjoy the main idea of the book - a "surprise" wedding - although I do feel that was rather unrealistic. All in all, it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of afternoons!

I am a huge James Patterson fan but I was not impressed with this one. I did read the whole thing though so that says something.

Gaby is hosting herself a Christmas wedding but she won't tell anyone (including the groom) whom she is going to marry. She gets all her children to come home for the wedding.

I just don't see anything special about this book.

It was an easy read, but eminently forgettable. I read it as part of a book club, and it was pleasant enough. I don't think I cared who she married at the end, but did feel sorry for him.

Kind of a "girly" book, it's about a widow who has decided to remarry on Christmas day but won't tell her 4 children who she's marrying. They must all come home for Christmas and will find out at the wedding. She wants her family all together at one time. There are three possible grooms, all very good friends of Gaby, the bride to be and even they don't know who she's going to choose since all three have proposed. We see into the lives of each of the children. One daughter has a failing marraige, one daughter has a husband facing a serious illness, one daughter is a career woman and one son is a struggling young writer. It was a light, easy read with a happy ending as you would expect. Lovely book.

The Christmas Wedding explores the lives of widowed Gaby and her four grown children. The POV alternates over the course of the novel. Each child is dealing with their own set of issues from illness to abusive spouses to job woes. When Gaby receives proposals from three men she decides to plan a Christmas wedding. She sends her children video messages with all the details except for the groom's identity. She does list three possible suitors and hopes the mystery will entice her children to come home for Christmas. The Christmas Wedding is a novel that had the potential to really wow me, but the large cast of characters killed the execution. I feel like we received these brief introductions to each character's life that really captured my attention, but none received the page time needed for me to connect. There was the possibility of really great characters, but the development was lacking. This is a novel that would have benefited greatly from 50-100 more pages.I'm also not real sure how I feel about Gaby stringing along 3 guys. It seemed a little cruel, but the guys seemed more than ok with it. Realistic? Probably not, but I can totally see this becoming a made for TV movie. Honestly I’m just not a big Gaby fan. I would have loved to see more time devoted to the trials her children were facing in their lives. The Christmas Wedding is a quick and fluffy read with the holiday theme many readers flock to this time of year, but don't expect it to pack the same emotional punch as Sam's Letters for Jennifer or Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. Even with its faults The Christmas Wedding managed to keep me reading. I also liked how the end wrapped everything up. A little too neatly? Probably, but as a reader who hates to be left hanging I appreciated the author giving me my desired closure.
