About this audiobook
Fallen Angel combines the ancient mythology of angels with the style and pacing of a gritty, hard-boiled thriller. You have never imagined angels, or murder mysteries, like this.
At the beginning of time, say the legends of the angels, God cast the angels out of his presence for fighting with the vicious, oppressive demons. Since that time, the angels have watched over humanity, seeking to protect its free will from the demons’ onslaught.
Now, circa 1999, warrior angel John Seraphin walks the earth, disguised a human, battling demons and rogue angels alike. Centuries among oblivious humans have left him cynical and bitter. “Damn humans,” he likes to say. Exhausted by the relentless pace of change, he retains the speech and mannerisms of the 1930's and 1940's long after they have ceased to have any meaning. John has given up on his faith in himself and his faith in humanity.
But when teenager Sarah Dyson witnesses the death throes of her murdered guardian angel, John fears she will suffer the same fate. He takes it upon himself to protect Sarah and to find the murderer. In an investigation that ranges from the cramped skywalks of modern-day Minneapolis to the staggering emptiness of a ruined Heaven, he faces a formidable array of obstacles. John’s ex-protégée, the young angel Nemiel, has become a twisted psychopath, murderously obsessed with the sensations earth has to offer. Worse, his obsession quickly centers on Sarah. John’s demonic nemesis, Rahab, lurks in the shadows, alternately throwing off false leads and tormenting John with his own contempt for humanity. The aeons, a political faction in Heaven, seek to turn the situation to their advantage. Even John’s friends among Heaven’s hierarchy seem to be manipulating events for their own, mysterious purposes.
John’s greatest challenge, however, is his relationship with Sarah. He struggles for her trust, forced to grapple with his own prejudices against humans, not to mention the vast differences between a typical, American teenager and an immortal, angelic warrior. Even as an unlikely friendship blossoms between the two, the dangers threatening them both escalate out of control. Soon, John Seraphin must risk everything to stand between Sarah and a deadly web of obsession and fanaticism that threatens not just her, but Heaven itself.
A fantasy novel, a shocking tale of suspense, and a detective story, Fallen Angel is a genre-bending thrill ride.
