About this audiobook

Return to the "steamy and dreamy" (Publishers Weekly) world of Christine Feehan's New York Times bestselling Carpathian novels as thundering passions signal a dark force on the horizon…

Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in South America, Dax worries that he has become the abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries. But Dax isn't the only one emerging from the darkness…

His name is Mitro, and he once stood by the side of the prince of the Carpathian people. Now he is the epitome of malevolence, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man. No one escaped the bloodshed, including his lifemate, Arabejila.

Now, between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun-one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

Another great book in the Dark series. As usual I enjoyed the characters. Can't wait for the next book!

I have loved Christine Feehan's "Dark" series since I read the first book, "Dark Prince". The Carpathian people are more than human but yet they share some of the same traits and values as the humans. Family is important to them. As the series progresses and the reader meets more and more of them, they become friends. The author has always run a few of the past characters through the present story line so you feel the connection. In this book the early connection to any of the other stories were two humans, friends of the Carpathian people. We didn't see any of the past Carpathian "support" characters until the very end. She also didn't explain Dax's connection to the any of the other characters. Still I loved the book.

I'm a big fan of the Carpathians, but this book was special. The lead female was both strong and feminine; she accepted her growing powers as well as her lifemate (fate) with equal serenity. I've loved all of the others for their insecurities, fears, and courage... but this woman makes me smile with how simply she accepts the life she leads.

Of the Carpathian men, Dax is by far my favourite. However, the way this book ended bugged me. It stopped waaaay too abruptly and I will leave it like that.

Stopped reading at 55% which is probably when the book was about to pick up but I just couldn't take it any longer. I used to love this series but It was just dragging on and on and on. Maybe I will pick it back up at a later date but not anytime soon.

I kept rolling my eyes after almost every other passage that I read. I knew that Christine Feehan's books are either hit or miss in her Dark series. The previous book, Dark Predator, was wonderful and the little snippet of Dark Lycan at the end of this book was better than the entirety of Dark Storm. I know this book is about vampires, but everything was so delusional. THey didn't even meet until the ninth chapter! The female was annoying and the male was a coward. I didn't like this couple and they weren't even mentioned in the series. I'm excited to read Dark Lycan, which I checked out today, which I can already tell will be much better than Dark Storm.

After centuries buried beneath a South American volcano trapped in deathless battle with Mitro, once a Carpathian prince, now a malevolent evil, Dax feels the walls of his prison weakening. For Riley and her mother, the trip deep into the South American jungle isn't for pleasure - it's a race against time to reforge the bonds that hold a terrifying evil. And the jungle itself, not to mention their companions, are conspiring to kill them. This book just screamed for editing. Repetitious, recycled... whole sections of description could have been removed without sacrificing a bit of plot. At 250 pages, this might have been a worthwhile purchase. At 400+, it's going on my borrow, don't buy list - unfortunately too late, but still.

Dark Storms is the most recent in the Carpathian series, and I really liked this newest addition. Not as good as the earlier books, but was still a fun and enjoyable read. Dark Storm was a bit different than her other books in the series. For one we have never dealt with a volcano in her series before, so it was nice reading a scenery that was a bit different. I also liked how there was a dragon aspect added to the hero. I really liked how not only was Dax a powerful Carpathian but he also had his soul combined with a dragons (which I thought was so neat), so he is even more powerful than before. I also enjoyed Riley as the heroine, she is very independent and likes things her own way, but she easily accepts Dax into her life, and doesn't fight her feelings for him. She accepts Dax as he is, and accepts being his lifemate, and I just loved her sense of adventure and fun. I also enjoyed how Dax is not all "he man" and knows how powerful Riley is, and knows that she is key to helping him defeat Mitro. I also loved the chemistry between Dax and Riley, as usual with Feehan, very hot and sexy. One other aspect I enjoyed was seeing some other characters we have seen in other books (such as Gary and Jubal), playing a very active role as well. The one thing that I didn't like very much about the story, was that it didn't start out very excited. We don't see Dax and Riley meet for quite some time. It was almost half way through before we see them interact with each other. So I had to be patient, even though there were some action scenes that happen during this time, then it gets really good in the middle once Riley and Dax explore their relationship more and start their hunt for Mitro. Overall a thrilling and exciting new installment in the Carpathian Series. Even though in the past few years I haven't necessarily loved the later part of the series, I found myself really liking this one, and it has been quite some time since I have felt this way about her series. Definitely a fun tale of adventure, love mixed with danger that will leave you breathless.

Riley Parker is on a trek in Peru with her mother Annabel. Riley’s father has died from a heart attack so Annabel and Riley are pressed to make it their scheduled pilgrimage to the ancient volcano where Riley was born. Riley doesn’t understand the magical connection her mother has with the mountain or the danger the mountain holds but she knows this trip is very important to her mother. Slowly, Riley starts developing a connection to the earth like her mother while her mother seems depressed over the loss of her father. Tragic events keep slowing their progress and her mother reveals that her ancestor, Arabejila, locked an ancient evil away in the mountain and if they don’t reset the bonds in time this evil will escape.

Danutdaxton, Dax has been locked in a volcano for over 500 years. He chose to be locked away with his arch enemy Mitro Daratranzonoff. For years Dax and Mitro have battled and they never could defeat each other. Arabejila is Mitro’s life mate, but he chose to reject the bond and turn vampire. Arabejila and Dax team up together to entomb both Dax and Mitro, they effectively stop Mitro’s evil from infecting the world. But over the years the Arabejila lines magic as been decreasing and Mitro has been chipping away at his bonds and about to escape.

It is a rush against time and magic to see who will win. Dax is assisted by a bond he makes with a dragon spirit. Riley gains the magical bond with earth and becomes the strongest in Arabejila line. Will it be enough to overcome Mitro’s evil and a new found power.

I am a huge fan of the Dark series. I’ve also read every book Christine Feehan has released, so you can say I am a big fan of Feehan as well. She did build an extremely interesting story but it seemed slow going. Riley and Dax don’t even connect until we are more than 30% into the story. I enjoyed Jubal and Gary’s part of the story but I missed how the interaction with other Carpathian characters we come to love was almost non-existent. I got excited when the De La Cruz copter was coming only to be disappointed when it again was a no show for any other Carpathian until the last 20% of the book. I found the dragon, old one, fantastic and loved his role. I liked Dark Storm but I didn’t love it. In the end, Dark Storm was a very likable read and I’m giving it 3 ½ stars.

I had high hopes for a more fascinating story set in the Carpathian world. The rain forest sounds good. We've never had a volcano before. The most powerful hunter that ever lived? Ok, we have that one in many of the books. Are Carpathian males raised to have inflated egos? A dragon is good, as is a human female with a strong connection to the Earth. And dang, we've got a Daratrazanoff as the bad guy!The females in Riley's line have come to this volcano every five years for the past five hundred, and do a ritual to strengthen the binding that keeps evil contained. And these females must be born there in order to ensure they get the Earth's gift. Riley and her mother are delayed this time and the evil escapes. Riley had never really believed the stories about what and why they were doing what they were until it falls on her shoulders. Dax had been chasing the incredibly powerful and evil Daratrazanoff for centuries. The vampire had a lifemate, but it was too late to save him. With Dax' consent, she trapped both the hunter and the vampire in the volcano and it's her line that does the ritual. The book starts off interesting, but turns into the same ole, same ole once Dax and Riley meet. I just never got excited about their relationship; possibly because she was so accepting from the get go.The aspect dealing with the volcano was good and I've always liked her books set in the rain forest. Riley's ability is a nice change and it's good to see a human female on the firing line. We do get something unique with the dragon which was interesting. I enjoyed the fact that both Gary and Jubal have large parts in the story. And hmmm, will there be a story on Jubal? But the fact that we had a Daratrazanoff as the vampire and the only mention of his family is that it's prominent or powerful--I can't recall which word Dax used--was disappointing. We don't get a lot from the vampire's point of view, and after being imprisoned in a volcano for five hundred years, I guess the last thing on his mind was his family. But we never find out if he's a brother to the other five we've met. Is he an uncle or cousin? It's too bad the only thing we really know about him is what Dax tells us. It felt like a missed opportunity.I enjoyed most of the story due to the different setting and circumstances, but much of the formula is the same and the story has a rushed feeling with a sudden ending. An epilogue would have been nice. The last ten percent of the book is devoted to information on Carpathian healing chants, the language and grammar.

The Dark series has been my guilty pleasure for a long time, I have read all the books in the series and I secretly love them except for these last two. The last book I loathed, this one was better but still nowhere near as good as the previous books in the series. Honestly I miss Xavier as the big bad guy it at least he gave the books some back story. So this book features a new Carpathian Dax, he is older than dirt even by Carpathian standards and a new vampire Mitro and it’s a bit of a shock the family that he comes from. It also makes a bit more of a badass than the usual.Dax and Mitro had been locked by Arabejila in a volcano for thousands of years, Arabejila was the lifemate of Mitro. This was the first fail for me because in all the previous books finding a lifemate was supposed to stop a Carpathian from turning into a vampire…yeah yeah CF explained that he was always bad and was the exception, still didn’t work for me. Every four years the descendants of Arabejila came to the volcano to reinforce the wards sealing them in and that’s what brought Riley in contact with Dax, she was a descendant…second fail. Arabejila’s lifemate was a vampire locked in a volcano…where did the descendants come from?Half the reasons I read this series is the backstory that goes on from book to book. At least this one had some, unlike the last one and we got some more information on why the Carpathians aren’t having children. Some characters from previous books were present and I liked seeing Gary and Jubal figuring prominently in this book along with Riordan and Juliette. A future book on Jubal and Juliette’s sister may be in the works, which would be kinda cool since neither is Carpathian and how that would work should be interesting. The bonding of lifemates which is kinda the focal point of this series was really disappointing too. There was not much in the way of conflict, no indecision really just Riley worrying if she was attractive enough for Dax. Also I don’t even think the ritual was the same words, no healing chants none of the usual stuff I have come to expect in the Carpathian series. While it was a hell of a lot better than book 22 it still was nowhere near as good as most of the others. I haven’t completely given up on the series, I’m 23 books in why quit now. I am hoping the next one is much better though.
