About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a novel of redemption and suspense, as a woman haunted by the unsolved murder of her childhood friend returns to her small South Carolina hometown. . . .

Tory Bodeen grew up in a run-down house where her father ruled with an iron fist and a leather belt—and where her dreams and talents had no room to flourish. Her one escape was her neighbor Hope, who lived in the big house just a short skip away, and whose friendship allowed Tory to be something she wasn’t allowed to be at home: a child.

Then Hope was brutally murdered, and everything fell apart.

Now, as she returns to Progress with plans to settle in and open a stylish home-design shop, Tory is determined to find a measure of peace and free herself from the haunting visions of the past. As she forges a new bond with Cade Lavelle—Hope’s older brother and the heir to the family fortune—she isn’t sure whether the tragic loss they share will unite them or drive them apart. But she is willing to open her heart, just a little, and try.

But living so close to those unhappy memories will be more difficult and frightening than Tory could ever have expected. Because Hope’s murderer is nearby as well. . . .

“Roberts may have achieved her personal best in this tense Southern Gothic. As atmospheric and unsettling as a Tennessee Williams play. . . . This is romantic drama at its best.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

The story itself rates 5 stars. Great Nora Roberts. The narrator has a nice voice but the characters sound the same or similar and sometimes it was difficult to tell which character was speaking during conversations.

Great book. Loved the characters. Classic who-dun-it. Keeps you guessing until the very end. I liked who the villian turned out to be. I didn't want it to be one of the characters that I had come to care so much about! A little romance. Great book!

Some of the books Nora Roberts writes are good and some are awful. This one was great. Interesting twist and good character development.

This was pretty good. A little more angsty from the heroine than I like (“I am psychic there for I must suffer”). My sister had read it before and told my there was a twist ending but it still had me guessing till the end and I was surprised.

Another brilliant book by Ms Roberts. Trouble is they are so good you cannot stop listening and they go too quickly.

It's a great book, well written as always, but the reader was awful. I nearly stopped listening a few times because of her run-on sentences and lack of character changes. It's like periods and comas don't mean anything as she reads. It changes the feel entirely and ruins the enjoyment. I've read the book but like to listen when I have to travel for work.

This book is classic nora roberts.
Fantastic. This book takes work mto realise how good it is, if you're listening to it. May be this is one to read on paper. The narrator, you can tell is professional. I'm a speed reader, but listening to a speed narrator is a different story. Is she late for her bus or does she get paid by the second. Its hard to keep up and this is primarily what spoils the book. I have to rewind to remember where I left off. Shame.

Nora Roberts is a great writer...keeps you thinking the whole way through. She also does a good job of developing the characters. Good read!

    I would have given 5 stars but…

This was a very good story with a twist at the end, but the narrator was beyond awful. She spoke too quickly and without inflection, ignoring punctuation. All the characters sounded the same regardless of their gender. I honestly think a second grader could have read it with more emotion. If you can get beyond that, it’s an enjoyable read.

A fantastic book but might stress out people who have had trauma from being violated sexually. If you're able to distance yourself from the dark parts of the story it's an amazing read.

I don’t know if this is a book worth reading, definitely not a book worth listening to. The narrator sounds like she’s just stating facts the whole time. When she does other character’s voices she has slightly more emotion, but she makes the main character sound like a professor who hates their life, & is only teaching to help pay off their school loans. I can’t get past Chapter 4. It seems interesting. She just ruins it.

Better than average Nora Roberts offering. I particularly like it that the hero is an organic cotton farmer. I'm thinking about donating this to the WMRC Library's fiction collection for that very reason.

Maybe this is an unfair review? It's not that the book is as terrible as all that -- the mystery/thriller plot was kind of interesting, and the writing was decent, if veering off into the purple at times. But the romance plots were amazingly annoying, and confirmed for me that mainstream romance is just not my thing. The romantic lead came across as a total jerk, "winning" the heroine by tactics that are absolutely creepy. He follows her around, shows up uninvited, never takes no for an answer, and basically stalks her. And she likes it. Ugh.

One of my favourite novels by Nora Roberts. It explores grief, abuse, and strength throughout time.

Carolina Moon was hard to get into and dry in some places, yet once it picked up it was hard to put down. Unlike other of Robert’s books, this one seemed to have an ending that was easy to understand, that is until the whole twist of the book, which resulted in once again a rushed scene that is a bit confusing as to what is happening.

Believe it or not this is my first Nora Roberts book. I was drawn to the South Carolina setting, the mystery, and the sultry psychic. I was not disappointed. As a native of South Carolina the setting and the people rang very true.It made me homesick. I also thought the mystery was very good. There were several possible killers that I debated. The psychic visions were creepy and not too heavy-handed. And there were dogs. It was a perfect storm of a book for me. There is romance and sex. I am not a big fan of long sex scenes and the ones in this book were not too long or detailed. (I don't need to SEE the math). Even though it had all the things I love, I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.

While herself an abused child, Tory Bodeen's best friend, Hope Lavelle, was killed in a vicious attack. Tory left home when she was eighteen and moved to New York, but now she has returned to Progress to face her childhood fears and open a boutique. Her arrival catches the attention of Cade Lavelle, Hope's brother. If you enoy Nora Roberts for her romantic suspense, this book will not disappoint.

This book had its ups and downs, but I have to say it was mostly ups. I thought I had it all figured out very early, but Nora surprised me! Though sometimes I think her climaxes are over a little too quickly (no pun intended). I am a little tired of the couples in these romance novels deciding to get married in what seems like seconds after they connect. I guess that's supposed to be romantic.
