About this audiobook

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life—a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

I haven't read a Nora Roberts novel in a long time and enjoyed this title. If one is not familiar (as I am not), one can learn alot about training puppies and about Search and Rescue Canine teams. The author is shown on the back cover with two (2) dogs so I’m wondering if she has personal experience with training dogs or attending dog obedience classes or went to training classes with her dogs for Search and Rescue as research for this novel as the language needed to compose the storyline seemed absolute second nature within the ease of her storytelling. I would think that those that love dogs would love this novel.

Fiona Bristow, dog trainer, search and rescue canine handler and op leader, and most of all SURVIVOR! A victim when George Perry serial killer captured her and SURVIVOR when she escaped and helped put him in prison for life. Now George Perry has created a proxy in his image with the responsibility of ending her life.
Nora Roberts take the story of serial killer and weaves a fascinating blend of emotions that reach through the page and grab you by the throat and heart. Then adds the knowledge of dog training and search and rescue which informs and instructs.
As a story teller she tops my list and I am so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy the narrative. And, Lenny, my chihuahua thanks her for the discipline I was able to impart from her instruction in dog handling.

Lately I've complained that NR put far too much research in her books and it looks like it started around this one. Not that much as later on - and luckily I like dogs - but more than she did before. Not one of her best, but I still liked it.

Story of a strong women who doesn't let a past horrific incident define her.

Very enjoyable read. In particular, I really liked all the information of dog training. It added an additional layer to the book beyond the romance and beyond the suspense. The characters were multi-dimensional. And the female protagonist was smart and took steps to protect herself from danger. The male protagonist was strong and not perfect, which was great.

I figured that I would try several NR books on my latest trip to the library. I grabbed two or three and started with The Search.

Better than I expected. There is a lot of dog content, as others have warned, but I didn't find it over-the-top.

I love Nora Roberts when she writes as J.D. Robb. I have yet to have the same feeling for her other books. This one took FOREVER to get to any suspense and it was so contrived.

Nora Roberts is a compete comfort read for me and this didn't disappoint. All her favorite elements making it a successful if fairly standard romance.

4.5 starsFiona has three dogs, and all are trained in Search and Rescue. She also runs a dog training business. When Simon moves to the island she lives on, and comes for training with his puppy, of course, they fall for each other. Fiona has some scary stuff in her past, though. She managed to escape from a serial killer, who was later imprisoned. Now there seems to be a copycat killer out there, killing in exactly the same way and it's not only bringing back memories, it's hitting too close to home. I really enjoyed this. Not only did I love the dogs, the Search and Rescue and dog training stuff, but the serial killer storyline was really good, I thought. Simon, I could take or leave, but the rest of the book as definitely enough for me to rate this one of the highest I've read by NR (the other also involving animals: Black Hills).

Before this, the last Nora Roberts book I read was the Bride Quartet series. (great series if you haven't read it ) I forgot how comfortable it can be to sink into a romantic suspense book by Nora Roberts.

The books heroine is Fiona who trains dogs and belongs to s search & rescue team, she is also a victim and survivor of a kidnapping. Now years later she is once again in the sights of a criminal mind.

The Hero is Simon a master carpenter who is a loner by choice. But when his mother delivers a new puppy to his home he is disparate to get help with this loveable terror Jaws.

As Fiona starts training both Simon & Jaws, Simon becomes tangled in helping Fiona stay ahead of the criminal mind tracking her.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. I particularly liked that the plot covers both the rescue dogs events and the serial killer activities. It was interesting how the heroine handled the hero and his caveman tendencies. Simon brings his out-of-control puppy to Fiona's school for training.

A dog trainer for canine search and rescue on a island, a serial killer on prowl and a rude, dishy carpenter. Intriguing, only serial killer was bit too easy to tame and rude dude quick to fold up. I wish Simon Doyle's character was too hasty to crumble. That said, it was an interesting, fast read - that came by my way thanks to my team member, her book with strong recommendation to finish it. ;)

I got this in a box from my mom. Then I got a phone call that she was so glad I got the box, she read this book and since she usually reads romance stuff I wouldn't touch she was incredibly excited that it was something she thought I could read so we could discuss it. Who can say no to that.

Do yourself a favor and don't read this book. Read the front flap if you must and you'll know how it begins and ends. Without all the 500 plus crap in between. But I had to bump it a star just because it was such a sweet sentiment from mom. And now if anyone has anything nice to say about it please let me know so I don't completely disappoint her in our discussion.

SHE: is a tough but vulnerable search and rescue dog trainer! Who once escaped from a serial killer!

HE: is an artistic but grumpy furniture maker! Who is just trying to get some work done!

WILL THEY: be able to catch the new serial killer? and define their relationship? and have sex on a table?

    YES OF COURSE THEY WILL.

The Red Scarf Killer targeted co-eds. An even dozen young, athletic co-eds whom he abducted and strangled with his signature red scarf, and buried in shallow graves where they'd be discovered. The thirteenth, Fiona Bristow, got away. And the Red Scarf Killer got caught, tried, and sentenced. And he's in jail. But someone else has picked up where he left off, and Fiona knows he'll be coming for her...Fiona, along with rough around the edges love interest Simon Doyle are pretty typical of Roberts' pairings. Strong, competent woman, strong, competent and protective man. Simon is perhaps a bit rougher and less polite than others of Roberts' heroes, but he still fits the mold pretty well. The dogs add nicely to the story, and it's obvious Roberts did her research.

This was quite an average story from Nora Roberts, sadly.Granted there was a lot of dog behaviour passages, because of Fiona's profession, but I felt there was too much of it, which detracted from the story of her stalker turning killer. I couldn't connect with Fiona or Simon, and I was more hooked on the hunt to find the killer, which when it came to the end, was a bit of an anti-climax.Nora Roberts is always top notch with her crime novels, but this was a bit of a disappointment.

If the author could have just left the most or the romance and sex out of this book it would have been a really intriguing and thrilling story. I could not finish it as it was just too... I don't know... 'stupid' and 'icky'. I don't care about the main characters hotness for each other - I want to know more about the killer and what he has up his sleeve next. One dimensional characters really made this novel a loser for me. I've never read Nora Roberts before and now I know why. Not recommended at all.

Fiona Bristow moved to Orcas Island a few years ago, she works as a Dog trainer and has a close few friends in this close-knit community. Into the community comes Simon Doyle, a cabinetmaker, who makes special pieces, an artist in wood. He's nothing like her but the two of them spark. She also works on canine rescue and fights back issues with herself. (Including a moment of claustrophobia that I suffered myself recently in a tent). Many years ago she was the witness against a serial killer and apparently he's at work again, but he's in jail. He's taunting Fiona, making her come to terms with her past and possibly her future.I love how Fiona and Simon spark off each other, sometimes accomodating, sometimes fighting but always with love. I really enjoyed the story.

Got this one from my mom. She read it and really enjoyed it so I gave it a shot. It was a fun read, especially if you live in the Pacific Northwest as I do. It was a bit predictable, yet still entertaining. A good one to read after something brain consuming. Its a pretty quick read and I found the descriptions of the locations and animals quite good.

A bit long, a bit anticlimactic. The bad guy was bad and yet when she had her moment to confront him, it was over...way to fast. Her books lately have been very talky, lots of girl talk and love talk...too much talking in my opinion. A good story, but it could have been shorter, or more twists and turns to make the length more worth while. I liked it, but didn't love it. Glad I got book at the library.

A little predictable, the ending did seem like it was rushed a little. The book went on and on building the characters and then then end climax was just boom... over. Overall it was a good book.
