About this audiobook

Where there's smoke there's fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie's name is on the killer's list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer's identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it's time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie's mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who's just returned to town. Stephanie's sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir "bake-off." And Grandma Bella, Morelli's old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts "the eye" on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie's life looks like it's about to go up in smoke.

Not vintage Evanovich, but an improvement on the last few books. Though Stephanie still can't choose between the two men in her life, she does capture several FTAs with a minimum of fuss. But in a rare moment for me, I was pretty certain who the killer was long before it was revealed in the book.

Vinnie's has been burned to the ground

His father-in-law owns the business & is on him

They are working out of the Mooner's R.V.

They have found a body of a missing local mobster. They know that it was not a mob hit, because his diamond & ruby pinkie ring is still on his finger & someone dug the hole & shoved him under the garbage cans.... mob hits are no-find-the-body hits

Bella, Joe's grandmother got into an argument with Stephanie @ the donut shop & puts the "eye" on her. everywhere Stephanie turns is Bella.... and every time Stephanie sees her, well there's another eye!

Her first skip is a "biter", as in vampire....and of course he skips past Stephanie & Lula as well

There's a new man hanging around Stephanie, he's a great cook & Stephanie's Mother & Gramma Mazur Love him

More mobsters begin showing up in the form of corpses... some with notes for Stephanie

Of course there's HOTTIE Morelli (who actually tells Stephanie he loves her) and there is Smokin Hot Ranger

The end is leading directly to the next book.....

I have to say that I didn't have any high hope for this book, but I was mildly surprised

I liked this so much more than 15 (which was stinky and made me want to give up). I didn't find this as funny as many of the other books but I was smiling. But more importantly, Lula & Stephanie were semi-normal, well as normal as the pair of them could be.... they were not comic caricatures of inanity as they were in 15.

I did figure out who the murderer was almost at the beginning, and of course, the formula is the same..... What would the series be if it didn't follow the formula?

This was a very light and entertaining read, which was not overdone for a change.... It seems as Evanovich gave this book some thought before having it published, and that was a huge relief. I'm thinking I'll be reading 18 when it comes out in November.

BOTTOM-LINE:Another fun read, but not that amazing a plot.PLOT OR PREMISE:Bodies are popping up on the construction lot for the new bonds office, and somehow it all connects to Stephanie..WHAT I LIKED:While figuring out who is using the site as a body farm, they also get to arrest an old vampire, deal with a culinary matchmaking option, a bear, and Stephanie's libido in overdrive..WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:Yet again, the premise is that creepy stalker dudes are amusing. And a solution that relies on the killer revealing all..DISCLOSURE:I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. I am not personal friends with the author, nor do I follow her on social media.

Life is never dull for bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Dead bodies cropping up, some with her name on them. Torn between two hunky guys; Morelli the cop and Ranger the security expert. Her mom trying to be a matchmaker by inviting an old classmate over for meals. Morelli's old world grandmother has put "The Eye" on Stephanie with the curse of the vordo. Yup, lots going on.I've not read a lot of this series, but I can say that I have enjoyed the ones I have read. Fast moving action, lots of crazy things happening and a strange batch of characters make for some hilarious reading. For me this is in the quick read category. Kind of like a madcap mystery with some good laughs.

The mystery was just okay, but I gave this an additional star for the simple outstanding reason that Stephanie finally got it on with Ranger again in this book. Not once, but twice! Not only that, she didn't sleep with Morelli at all. Nice change of pace. Also the virtual boob job was funny, as was Lulu thinking she was turning into a vampire. And it makes me happy that Stephanie is back to trashing cars.

    My favorite quotes:

(Ranger, explaining why he's happy to give Stephanie cars): "Working at Rangeman is a high stress job, and you're one of our few sources of comic relief. I give you a car and my men start a pool on how long it will take you to trash it. You're a line item in my budget under entertainment."

(Later): I felt my cell phone buzz, and I looked at the screen. Ranger.
"Your GPS just went blank," Ranger said when I answered.
    "The car exploded."
There was a beat of silence. "Rafael won the pool," Ranger said.

This is officially my last read in the Stephanie Plum series.I can't remember the difference between any of the stories/books anymore. I liked Stephanie's ditzy but down-to-hearth personality (where are my Tastykakes?), but she is not evolving or maturing (still living in a crappy apartment with that hamster of yours?). The love triangle was fun for a bit, but enough already, babe, pick one!I could go through one of these in a couple of days, but started #17 a month and 1/2 ago and can't bring myself to finish it.It was fun while it lasted Stephanie...

Once again another exciting addition to the series. A new guy in Stephanies life that is being pushed on her by family.  Very interesting turn of events with him and her feeligs towards him from the get got. Grandma Mazur's antics as well a Grandma Bella's curses. Awesome read.

I agree with all the reviews! Stephanie is just Stephanie, the bounty hunter we all know and love. The laughs are still there, out-loud giggle, laugh till you cry laughs. The characters are crazy and would be over the top, except that it takes place it Jersey... I'm in the Ranger fan club as well. If you are looking for an Agatha Christie deep mystery, you're reading the wrong series. So don't complain! This is light, fun series to bring a laugh to your day.

Stephanie Plum has returned, and she has her usual array of problems. She's still torn between Ranger and Morelli, and a third possibility appears in this book, Dave Brewer. He and Stephanie went to high school together. Meanwhile, the bond office is operating out of Mooner's camper because its building burned in a previous Plum installment. Dead bodies start turning up on the lot, and some are labelled, "To Stephanie". There is the requisite loss of a car, and three people at once are trying to kill Stephanie. Lula is present front and center throughout the book. It's just what the doctor ordered if you need a few good laughs. It's an easy, fun read.

There is a never a time where Stephanie Plum does not satisfy! This story takes on another adventure with Stephanie and Luna that includes dead bodies near where the bonds office used to be, dead bodies in Stephanie's truck (borrowed from Ranger after hers blew up, of course) and the discovery that a murderer is closer than they think. We have a continued relationship between Stephanie and Morelli as well as her relationship with Ranger after Morelli's grandmother puts a curse on her which makes her libido go crazy.

Evanovich can always be counted on a for a story that will keep you guessing and laughing at the same time!

The Stephanie Plum series is probably some of my favorite pieces of popcorn reading. Light, fluffy, fun, and funny, but with enough of an edge to it to keep it from getting saccharine.

Every year I look forward to the release of the latest Stephanie Plum book. These books are fun, sexy and just plain out make me laugh. And the latest book is no exception. In this book, dead bodies are showing up on the lot of the burned out Vincent Plum bonds office and Stephanie appears to be the target of the killer (or at least on his mind). On top of that, Stephanie's feeling the pressure to make a choice between the two men in her life - Ranger and Morelli. Her mother thinks she should drop both of them and go for the former high school football player that's returned to Trenton.

As I said before, I love these books. They're not high class literature and I don't walk away from them feeling like I've experienced some cosmic revelation. They're just fun. And, I have to listen to the audiobook on every one of them. Lorelei King is amazing. I tried reading on of the actual books before and couldn't do it. I had to hear Lorelei King's narration. In short, if you want something fun and light-hearted to read, give the Stephanie Plum books a listen.

Read 4-5 of Plum series when it first started. Liked first 3-4 then all of a sudden realized this series suffered from the same "disease" as a certain other series I'd stopped reading--the same book was written over and over and over to the point where reader began to feel "I've read this before" then thinking, well, maybe not, but . . . series writers can have this kind of a problem and I'm not sure how those who somehow write a series and don't have this problem. Thinking about it these things occurred to me . . . either main character is so developed and continues to develop that one doesn't really notice "its a repeat"; the plots are so compelling and complicated that they hold readers interest although there is little change in the "character" (the main protagonist); or the development of the protagonist in this series is what is repeated again and again, and again with almost exactly the same words with little growth, attitude, interesting personal developments, etc., etc. Boring. If I were to chose what is the most possible of these ideas, I'd have to say the plot and "movement" of the plot forward is weak and just not enough to carry the boring protagonist along with it. Good basic writing, however, and I know they are terribly popular, but popular isn't always interesting. I now know why I did not pursue and collect for my personal library this particular series.

Reading this book was a lot of fun. It made me laugh several times. I really liked the scene when Lula shot off the guys pinky toe. Too funny. So many strange and violent things happen in Stephanie's world, and she just shrugs them off.

This time, in addition to Ranger and Joe, a third love interest was added to the mix. I don't think Stephanie needs any more men. She has enough going on juggling Joe and Ranger.

Several people want to kill Stephanie in this book, so it makes for an interesting final showdown. I think fans of the series will really enjoy this one.

I can only say that this is another Stephanie Plum novel. Nothing new and exciting happens. It is the same story line over and over again. I keep reading them because they are short, fun reads not because I expect anything out of them. I do have to say that I was really disappointed and annoyed that Stephanie keeps cheating on Morelli with Ranger and then getting upset at the thought that Morelli is sleeping with someone else. I know this is fiction but after seventeen books you can't help but get attached to some of the characters.

Alright I'm with some of the other reviewers. I like the Numbers series as they are quick and easy reads. But as they've noted the series seems to be going nowhere. I was down to the last 40 pages and was like hold it she only has 40 pages to wrap it up. This one has Morelli's grandma putting a few curses on Stephanie one of which makes her exceedingly horny. She has lots of sex with the two men in her life. Which was a newer twist in the series. Her mother has also set her up with a man who loves to cook which is a huge plus for Stephanie who doesn't cook at all. But the new man turns into a near stalker for Stephanie. She even goes so far as to break his nose with a hairdryer and the man comes back the next morning to make breakfast. As always a nice easy fun read but if your looking for character development over the course of a long series this may not be the book for you. But that being said I am looking forward to reading the others in the series.

After the movie, One for the Money (I loved it), I wanted to read the books. I was half happy and half disappointed (to be fair the first few books were better than the rest - I've read 17 or 18). The writing isn't anything special but there is banter and wit (which is waning). I love her grandma, the ex-hooker, and some other random side characters - that and the witty moments kept me coming back for more.By the time of the 5th book (or at least by the 10th) you would think she would start to get the hang of her job or get a new one - nope. At a certain point she is just a pretty woman of 30ish who can't pick from 2 men (or choose to move on from both), who is bad at her job, and relies on luck and the men in her life to save her (to be fair I think of one time she was saved by a woman). So why do I keep reading? In spite of how annoying she is, and how she is hopelessly in love with 2 mildly mentally abusive men? Despite all the half attractive or good guys being over 6 ft tall for some reason and all the other men are taken or ugly? The reason is the supporting crazy characters, and the fading wit.

It took me a little time to decide between 2 or 3 stars for this book. Ultimately I decided to go with three books because I feel like it was better than the previous book in the series. Pretty much this book is exactly like all the others in the series except for the fact that they are running the bail bonds office out of Mooner's bus. There is more action between Stephanie and Ranger and Stephanie and Morelli in this one. Stephanie has still yet to make up her mind and it is still annoying as ever. The main mystery behind who committed all the murders was so easy to figure out early on that it was laughable. Oh well on to the next one.

Pleasant enough read, but the nonstop activity felt exhausting. It was easy to guess whodunit---there weren't that many choices and one of them reminded me of an insane robot early in the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer series; and I never guess whodunit.
  • Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
    3/5
Although it had it's funny spots that kept the story moving, I felt this was one of the weaker novels in the series. The "whodunit" solution comes in an exposition near the end, rather than being uncovered naturally (well, as natural as Stephanie gets) as it goes along. And, on the relationship front, after maintaining an exquisite tension for so long, the total collapse of Stephanie's will power and conscience was unwelcome and, I thought, uncharacteristic.
  • Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

As usual, Stephanie's adventures are hysterically-laugh-out-loud funny. It's like a train wreck, as Lula says..you just cannot stop watching - or, in this case, reading.

Great book as all of Evanovich's are. I have finally started to get her whole collection starting at one and am actually going to read them in order from now on! Lol-Of Course, Now I got to get Four Even Though I Have Five, Six, Seven, Eight...Etc. They Are So Good They Read So Quickly! I Can Never Put Them Down...So Funny and So Entertaining...Just Like This One! If You Haven't Read Her Books Yet, Try One...This One If You'd Like! Its Great to Read in Order But Definitely Not Required!
