About this audiobook

That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert—he's the main course!

Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

Dr. Gregory Hewitt recovers from the shock of waking up in a stranger's bedroom pretty quickly—once he sees a gorgeous woman about to treat him to a wild night of passion. But is it possible for the good doctor to find true love with a vampire vixen, or will he be just a good meal? That's a question Dr. Greg might be willing to sink his teeth into . . . if he can just get Lissianna to bite.

Lissianna Argeneau even though she is a Immortal, faints at the sight of blood, so she has to feed from mortals for sustenance. When she heads to her mother's home for her birthday party, she finds that in her old bedroom a man in her bed, tied wide eagled. To say Lissianna is surprised is a understatement. Dr. Gregory Hewitt finds himself waking up in a strangers bed room, tied to the bed and then see's a gorgeous woman. Gregory is told that he is to be Lissianna's birthday gift. Lissianna is shocked to discover a stranger in her bed, not only that but she can't read his mind, which is even more puzzeling to her. But then her mother informs her that he is not for her to feed on or even have sex with, he is to help her cure her of her phobia of seeing blood. But Greg is much more irresistable that she would imagine, and she finds it difficult to resist him. A Quick Bite is the first in the Argeneau series, and here is Lissianna's story. This is where we get introduced into this series and I found the plot and the characters to be endearing. I loved the whole concept of the hero being kidnapped and tied to the heroines bed. I mean its definitely a great start for a romance, especially with Lynsay Sands at the helm. I found A Quick Bite to be a engaging and fun read, and definitely a hard one to put down. I just loved the plot and the characters equally. It was just a enjoyable read and very witty and full of everything that Sands puts in her books, and she delivers with A Quick Bite!

Plot:The Blurb does say it all.My thoughts:This one was on the lighter side of paranormal romance. Sure there was some passion and danger, but there was also this light vibe and some humour.I liked the plot idea. Lissianna is an 200 year old vampire, she has no problem biting down on a neck but in these modern times most blood comes in bad. And Lissi has one big problem, she faints at teh sight of blood. Her mother kidnaps a hunky men and leaves him on her bed, the doctor to fix her problems. A sexy doctor that makes her long for a bit more.Lissi was nice, and after delving deeper into her past I understand her fear of blood. Greg was understanding, well, after a while, and they seemed to good for each other. But being immortal is not that easy when it comes to men.And there I come into the best part of the book, the vampires. Not silly cross fearing, no shadows bloodsuckers here. No there is a good scientific reason; Atlantis, scientist, nanobots into bloodstreams to cure illness, and those same nanos were just too good. Which left the people almost immortal, but in a need of blood not to die. The same nanos can be transferred from mother to child, and if you find you perfect mate. There you got, vampires created by mistake by a superior people. I loved the originality of this. The tone is light, and had me reading fast. One thing did bother me, a certain danger that emerged and that was so obvious but that Lissi did not see. But then she did have Mr Hunk on her mind so I forgive her.My recommendation and final thoughts:I liked this book, and it is a series that I would recommend. There are still lots of single vamps that need to find true love, and I wonder what dangers might emerge. A 3,5 with a promise of more to come. I enjoyed this story, and I sure enjoyed the background for the story. It was a sweet story, throw in some passion and mix with one big nosy family.Reason for reading:Sounded fun

I read this series from the library a few years ago, but couldn't remember WHICH series it was, or who the author was...until I got part way in to this, and remembered that I had, in fact, read it. I kept going because I couldn't remember how it ended, but I'm not going to bother rereading any of the others. Too much other stuff on my to-read list!

Liked it, but I thought it took too damn long to get to the part where things actually start to happen. But then it got good and I started to really get into this world and its characters. Kudos points to the author on the fresh view about how the vampires came to be. Very interesting world building and plot.

Not my kind of paranormal romance. The conflicts were boring and/or ridiculous (hi, I am a 200 year vampire who faints at the sight of blood). I didn't like the hero and heroine enough to care about their relationship. The story and dialogue were silly without being funny. And I felt the way the vampire characters acted conflicted with how I imagine people who are hundreds of years old would think and act. Maybe I just like my vampires a little more tortured.

I have waited a long time for this book as my library could not get hold of it until it was republished this year and it was worth waiting for but it not the best in this series.Lissiana Argeneau has been a vampire for over 200 years, and she has a problem. She can't drink blood as the rest of her family does, which is from bags from the blood bank as she feints at the site of blood so she has to either take in intravenously or off the hoof (from a mortal). For her brithday her mother Margurite decides to kidnap Dr Gregory Heweitt who is a leading phsycologyst to help with her blood phobia. Lidssiana is surprised to find Greg tied to her bed and she thinks he is a present for dinner so she gets up close and personal with him so she can take some blood - she soon finds out that he is not here for dinner but to help her - her mother has actually ordered chisese for her dinner! It was a pretty good story, they fall for each other fairly fast and Lissiana goes through the motions of not being able to read Greg (and that is one sign that they are life mates) - things gets a little hairy when someone stakes Lissiana hoping to kill her. This part of the story was a little weak I thought but in was okay.

This is the first book in the Argeneau Vampire series. Right now there are 28 books in the Argeneau Vampire series. This was a pretty typical vampire paranormal romance. It was okay but the plot was really thin.I listened to this on audiobook and didn’t like the narrator much. The narrator sounded like a breathy public service announcer and was distracting and hard to listen to.There were some things I enjoyed about this book that set it apart from other paranormal romances. I loved the explanation about the nanos that make these “vampire” immortals; there was some fascinating history here and it was an interesting concept. I also enjoyed the tight and caring relationships between Lissianna and her family. I liked how Lissi is a kind and caring, yet capable, heroine. There were a number of things I thought were lacking as well. I just never really felt the chemistry between Lissi and Greg; the relationship felt a bit dry to me. I also struggled with the lack of any plot (aside from Greg finding out about vampires). Sands does try to throw in a bit of a life or death scenario towards the end of the book but this was kind of just thrown in there and felt contrived.Overall this was an okay PNR book but I wasn’t all the impressed. There are some unique elements to this series but they weren’t enough to offset the lack of any plot and the vanilla feel of the novel.

Read for Fun (Kindle)Overall Rating: 3.50Story Rating: 3.25Character Rating: 3.75First Thought when Finished: A Quick Bite was a strong beginning to a "new to me" series!Story Thoughts: A Quick Bite is one of those of books that might have read better for me if I wasn't constantly looking up when I was going to get stories for other characters in the story. I just never was completely invested in the love story of Lissi and Greg.* I was more invested in every one around them which means the story and I never clicked. That is on me as the reader, not on the author! Though I did like the lengths her mom would go to in order to help her little girl (no matter how old you are, you are always momma's little girl)!Character Thoughts: I really enjoyed the characters introduced in A Quick Bite. In fact, I am pretty sure I fell head over heals for a few of them. Lissi was a cute character and I think really coming into her own.** I felt she still had some "spreading her wings" growing to do but with Greg in her corner that is going to happen. I love Greg! Poor guy handled everything like a champ even after thinking that he was the birthday present in a whole other way! He was a fun character and just down right adorable.Final Thoughts: I enjoyed my trip into the Argeneeau's world and will most certainly be following up with the next book!****I like Lissi and Greg more now as a couple after reading a few more stories in the series.**Lissi really has come into her own after a few books in the series. I guess this is the plus of me being ahead of my review writing.***Already did and I am on book 4. Overall this is just a fun series!

A typical yet different vampire story; I thought the evolution of vampires was a unique twist. But overall there really wasn't a plot, the heroine didn't show any backbone until more than 2/3 through the book, the hero (a somewhat known psychologist), just readily accepted the premise of vampires and even embraced the idea, although only knowing the family for just a few days? And the ending, that's how they dealt with the villain? Could have been a really good story, with some character development and a better plot.

Shortly after I started reading I realised this wasn't going to be the best book in the world though there were a couple of good jokes, one of them involves a cucumber...in a snack's trousers being used to cover his inability to get it up -the dude was anaemic and was faking everything: fake tan, fake job, fake shoulders (i.e. shoulder pads); the other involves Lissiana, a vampire with haemaphobia (a fear of blood) who faints at the very sight of blood. When I thought about this I couldn't help but wonder how she dealt with her periods, an obvious problem that Sands never addresses.

I don't know when this book was first published but it reads like it was written in the early 90s. It was highly predictable and VERY slow. Nothing surprised me. I admit I was looking for a light read with a happy ending, and I guess I got what I wanted I just didn't expect it to be this flimsy. The story was mostly about the Argeneau family, only in the last quarter of the book did you feel that Greg and Lissiana were in any danger, though it was glaringly obvious who had put them there.

There were plenty of embarressing moments for the main characters especially Greg who was humiliated a number of times though I think these instances were meant to be funny, they just came off as degrading to me.

On the plus side the history and explanation of how vampires came to be and the biological side of them was interesting as was Lissiana's mother's life story. Also the way Greg came into Lissiana's life was different to most of the paranormal romances I've read.

Overall A Quick Bite was synonymous with A Bit Dull.

I first read this ten years ago, and I still enjoyed re-reading it all these years later. The story itself is 5 stars.

The narration, however, is absolutely horrendous. It's very robotic with no emotion. Had the same narrator done the whole series, I wouldn't continue listening.

This was a great kick start to what is now an over 30 book series. It brings you to another way of thinking on the "classic" Vampire tale. Bringing Atlantis and science into the mix, with romance sprinkled in. As one who does not much care for typical romance novels this one is quite pleasant to read as the actual story line far outshines the page or two of mediocre romance fluff. Lissianna and Greg were the perfect choice to introduce us the Argeneau clan and all their complexity.

This is a straightforward, paranormal romance. The plot is about the love growing between Lissianna and Greg. These two protagonists are interesting and charming. The romance is insta-love. It happens in about a week's time. During this blossoming romance, someone thinks Lissianna is a vampire, which she is. By the third night, Greg decides to become a vampire and be a life mate to Lissianna. She has him consider all the pros as well as the cons of becoming one. Lissianna leaves him in the bedroom to think about all she's said. In the end, what will he decide?

The protagonists are more than cardboard cutouts. Having the character Lissianna faint at the sight of blood leads to her aunt taking measures into her own hands. Kidnapping Greg to cure Lissianna of her phobia is but one reason to tie Greg to Lissianna's bed. I liked the secondary characters a lot. The plot is romance. The subplots help move the plot forward and keep the story interesting. The dialogue is realistic and fits each character. The pace flows smoothly. This book is the first novel in the Argeneau series. Adult situations.

Lissianna (Lissi for short) is celebrating her birthday. She's 202 and her mom has a special present waiting for her. When she first sees Greg, she misinterprets her mother's intentions and makes a quick snack of him. While doing so, he awakens feelings in her that she didn't even know existed. She soon finds out though that he is there to help her get over her phobia; she's a vampire that faints at the sight of blood. This problem has plagued Lissi for some time and her family is desperate to get her better. Greg soon finds out that Lissi is actually a vampire, and instead of trying to escape her and her family, he only wants to understand them better. And he wants to help her in any way he can. As they get to know each other better, they began to wonder if they were destined for each other...but will Greg's knowledge about their race ultimately destroy him? My opinion: When I first started this book, I had trouble getting into the story. The writing just didn't pull me in so I found it hard to keep going. But I did, and ultimately I did enjoy this book. I liked the character's of Lissianna and Greg. I didn't, however, like most of her family. They just came off as annoying to me, every time they had a line I cringed. The only exception to that was her cousin, Thomas, who was witty at times which probably saved his character from being annoying as well. The story line itself was cute and inventive; I especially loved the explanation for how vampires came into existence; it was one I'd never heard before and I really liked that. The second half of the book was MUCH more interesting and the writing seemed to flow better. It was pretty obvious what was going to happen at the end (and by that I mean someone who was not as innocent as they seemed), but all in all it came together nicely. Of course it was the typical love story, where it's obvious they both love each other and you want to just shake both of them and say "Get on with it already! Just tell each other how you feel!!!" But of course then there wouldn't be much of a story, so I suppose it is necessary! My rating: 3/5 stars

It's not really worth reading. It feels very juvenile (though it's not young adult, just immature), and the author tells us everything, doesn't bother showing us anything. 1/3 of the way in and there's not even any sex to make it interesting in a different way. There's not really any plot/story, other than introducing Sands' "world" of vampires, and if there's any humor in it, it was too juvenile for me. For light vampire fiction go read Harris or Davidson and skip this, you won't miss anything.

Greg is a psychologist who specializes in phobias. It was the day before his week long vacation in Cancun when he saw her on the elevator. Brunette, silvery-blue eyes and gorgeous. Next thing he knows, he is willingly crawling into her trunk and locking himself in, only to wake up tied to a bed and the woman says her daughter will love him.Lissianna being a 200 year old vampire has a phobia for blood. It has her family worried, since she has to feed "off the hoof" instead of bags like the rest of them do. When her mom brings home a psychologist to cure her, she wants more than just his help, she wants him in her bed always. Only to find out that he is her true life mate, does she worry he will not except her.Games with love, lust, and a delusional priest have Greg and Lissianna fighting not only to love one another, but for their lives.

First in a long series, A Quick Bite conceivably fulfils the meaning of its title - sadly not for me is this book a satisfying meal. Even with an interesting variation on vampiric origins I found the story-line too pedestrian, even vapid; possibly due to my preference for more artful intricacies in my paranormal particulars than pages of romantic eroticism - it just bores me these days. The basics of the plot coalesce around single, beautiful, 200 year old Lissianna, member of the Argeneau vampire family who, endearingly but unfortunately, suffers from a phobia and faints at the sight of blood. Enter gorgeous, single, human psychologist Greg Hewitt - plucked from his routine by Lissianna’s mother to solve the myriad of problems associated with her daughter’s dilemma - and it is not difficult to perceive the flow of the story-line thence. Whilst this was a quick easy read, possessing some diverting and unusual departures regarding the paranormal aspects, this book did not hold me engrossed. I found the characters simplistic in their development and rather banal over all; and though occasionally revealing an unexpected plot device there was never any doubt to the eventual outcome, nor any great fascination in the course of the journey. If your predilection in reading is for lightweight paranormal romance, with hot-blooded bedroom antics within an exotic, somewhat tantalising world, then this book will most likely satisfy and gratify. Even as I can definitely respect the appeal this series may offer, regrettably it did not for me; I will reconsider reading more of this series and leave these books for those who appreciate this genre much more.(Nov 24, 2010)

Decent addition to Sands’ Argeneau vampire romance series. In this one, Lissianna Argeneau comes home on her birthday to find a guy tied up to her bed with a big red bow around his neck. She thinks he’s dinner, but actually her mom got her a psychologiest to help cure her hemophobia (fear of blood), something no vampire wants to have.

If you like your vampires ala Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton, or even Patricia Briggs, don't expect more of the same here. Those writers obviously draw a compelling dark fantasy realm, where the vampires are frightening, complex, and darkly mysterious. Here the vampires are as human as you or I. They even refer to themselves that way. There are no evil demons in possession in "A Quick Bite" but I found myself suprisingly drawn into the story of how Lissa, a 202 year old vamp, and Gregory a mid-thirties physchiatrist meet. I found the vamp's family all to be intriguing and fairly fleshed out and I can see reading more books about them. There are definately some aspects of the relationship that don't ring true, for example how quickly they fall in love. Obviously, also, in real circumstances, if you were mind tricked, tied to a bed, and made 'dessert' for a vampire, you'd probably be freaked out and running away from, and not straight to, the vampire. However, this isn't reality and that is what I like to escape from when I read. I found this to be a fast, lightweight read that I enjoyed every minute of.

The first time I read this book, I gave it 3 out of 5. The story was mildly engaging but I had a difficult time feeling an emotional connection to the characters. I reread the book and came up with the same score.

When I read, I want feel as if I know the characters and experience their journey with them. Unfortunately, this book felt like I was reading about a stranger’s story not experiencing a journey. I was unable to clearly picture some of the characters and settings in my mind and that may have been what caused my lack of emotional investment.

However, the concept and plot were interesting enough that I decided to give the series a shot and read another one.

My rating breakdown is below. The romance and sensuality scores don’t factor into the total rating of the book but I like to keep track of them anyway. Please remember that this is just my opinion and you are entitled to yours.

Plot: 3 – fair, held together well and was mildly interesting

Characters: 3 – like-able with some emotional attachment

Creativity:4 – original, well-developed, decent execution but left no lasting impression

Romance: 3 – Relationship shows some romance but there was no emotional involvement

Sensuality: 2 – Subtle, little sexual activity, alluded to with minimal to moderate description
