About this audiobook

New York Times bestselling author Mary Balogh sweeps us back in time to an age of scandal and glittering society - and brings to life an extraordinary family: the daring, passionate Huxtables. Katherine, the youngest sister - and society's most ravishing innocent - is about to turn the tables on the irresistible rakehell sworn to seduce her, body and soul....

In a night of drunken revelry, Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, gambles his reputation as London's most notorious lover on one woman. His challenge? To seduce the exquisite, virtuous Katherine Huxtable within a fortnight. But when his best-laid plans go awry, Jasper devises a wager of his own. For Katherine, already wildly attracted to him, Jasper's offer is irresistible:
to make London's most dangerous rake fall in love with her. Then Jasper suddenly ups the ante. Katherine knows she should refuse. But with scandal brewing and her reputation in jeopardy, she reluctantly agrees to become his wife. Now, as passion ignites, the seduction really begins. And this time the prize is nothing less than both their hearts…

I dislike giving single star reviews, but I just didn't enjoy this one at all. The main characters each showed *appalling* judgement right from the very first, and then seemed to actively get in the way of their own happiness at every available opportunity from then on. The plot was especially unlikely, and unfolded quite tediously. I didn't buy any of it. I've read 38 previous books by this author, and this is my least favorite.

I liked the OTP in this novel almost from the beginning; however, I found the heroine's romanticism and the hero's cynicism tiring. Balogh seems to do a really good job at beating a theme into the ground. The best moments were when he would open up about his life or when she would just let go and feel. I'm glad that the subplot was pretty minor, although it was kind of entertaining (even though I hate the "shrill older relative" trope a little). I'm still interested in the Huxtables, but I'm not sure this author will be a continued one for me.

The Huxtables are an incredibly close second to my favorite Balogh family! Reminiscent of Sense and Sensibility.

Grab this if you come across it!

I'm a big fan of Mary Balogh, and I enjoyed this book but at times it felt forced. It begins with a very fast, erotic opening, and as a writer I wondered how she would possibly deal with that in the plot. It was quite a task, I think. The lead characters were fairly well realized, but seemed less natural than many characters because of the self-conscious distance between how they felt within themselves and how they presented themselves to the world. I did not read the first book in the series, but have the third one already.

I liked this one better than the first installment of the series, but still not well enough.
The book starts out okay, but soon it somehow becomes boring again, and a bit preachy. Again I took twice as long as usual to read it, again I couldn't warm up to the characters.
Since I have the rest of the series in my bookcase, I will read them, but they will now go to the bottom of the TBR pile. Scores of people love this author, however, and I fully admit it's probably just me - this author just isn't to my taste.

A delightful and fun read! Then Comes Seduction is a wonderful addition to the Huxtable Quintet series. The characters are well written and the dialogue is laugh out loud funny at times. A great romance with an exciting plot!

Sweet story. Not much drama. Rake has to marry girl he compromised. Will they fall in love? Guess.

The second in the “Huxtable series”. There are four books in this series and this one tells the story of Katherine, the youngest sister. Having her seduction become the object of a wager goes horribly awry for Baron Montford, as in an effort to save both their reputations he must now marry her. Katherine was always attracted to Montford but after the wedding offers him a wager of her own.

I am liking this series and would highly recommend it to fans of the historical romance genre.

Much better than the first in this series. I think I simply liked the characters more and there was some of the witty repartee that I associate with the best Regency era romances. Now I can look forward to the next in the series without mixed feelings.

The concept of a gentleman finding a conscience right before winning a bet about seducing a virgin was well-done, but the three-year gap in seeing one another and the interactions after that time seems a little too-contrived. Still, it's fun and the other Huxtable stories that weave into the story make it a worthwhile romance series.

One night, Jasper Finley, Baron Montfort makes a wager. Within two weeks he will seduce Katherine Huxtable. He ends up losing the bet, but barely. The two of them are attracted. Two years later, the story of the attempted seduction comes up again as the two of them are drawn together and Katherine's reputation is destroyed. Marrying is the only way but Montford is deeply suspicious of marriages and relationships and he will have to learn how to trust her. It's entertaining. Having to learn to love post-marriage is one of the romance tropes and it's well done here. Entertaining but nothing too deep.

A re-read which help up very well.I enjoyed seeing there was more to Jasper than a wastrel who didn't care about others. I enjoyed his humour and I liked how Kate and he were absurd and laughed together often - that was very much a feature of their relationship and a connection they had almost from the start. I also liked how Balogh didn't let Jasper off the hook - he had to truly apologise to Kate for his reprehensible actions with the wager (the cad!) and she had to forgive him for them to be truly happy together.

This is the second book in the Huxtables series. The Huxtable family is a likable set of characters who are great to follow. Jasper is a strong male character who has both backbone and a softer side. He finds himself the subject of a wager that involves seducing the innocent Katherine Huxtable.I read this series out of order but it didn't seem to make a difference. Good read.

The seduction of Katherine Huxtable was supposed to be an easy wager for Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, but just at the moment when was upon him Monty drew back and his non-existent conscience prevented him from taken advantage of the beautiful country mouse.Three years later, they meet again and circumstances force them into a marriage that could destroy them both, or become their salvation. This is the second in the Huxtable series and it far surpassed the initial installment. Mary Balogh wins again.

The second story in the Huxtable series focuses on Katheen and Jasper. Jasper is a rogue who wager that he can seduce Kat into bed. Just as he was about to win the wager and just as Kat fell in love with him, her heart was broken!! Jasper decdes to leave London and does so for three years. Upon his return, she is back in his life. He then has another wager with Kat: that he can make her fall in love with him. As the town sees thier courtship, and a scandal is born, ressurecting the old wager. Jaser convices Kat that the solution would be to marry him. And so begins thier journey that will lead them to fall in love with each other. Jasper has such a great personality that makes him one of my favorite characters, next to Stephen Hustable. I enjoyed this story better than the first and look forward to reading the third story.

Mary Balogh does it again! "Then Comes Seduction" is a perfect read if you like bad-boy-redeemed-by-good-girl stories. There's more to it than that, of course, but I figure if this is your type of book...that's enough to get you interested. On his 25th birthday, Jasper makes his most infamous bet. He will seduce the virtuous society virgin of his buddies' choice. They select none other than Katherine, cousin to his brother-in-rakehellness, Constantine. All proceeds according to plan, until the final moment when Jasper draws back and delivers a set-down guaranteed to make her despise him...and it works. It's three years later and Katherine has certainly, um...mostly, all right occasionally managed to forget about the gorgeous villain who managed to do the right thing...likely for once in his life! But soon a strange set of circumstances and coincidences bring Jasper back into her life...to stay. Now Katherine is going to join in a very private wager with Jasper. The results of which will determine their future together.Balogh's romances are steamy and yet still touching somehow. Her ability to depict the unconscious changes in thought and character of her heroes and heroines is unsurpassed. There's no sudden moment...where actions change and from one day to the next life is different. Instead, her characters come to recognize the changes have already taken place over time and circumstance. For me, this is a reading pleasure in and of itself. The only epiphanies for her characters are when they come to realize what the reader's already figured out...they do love each other and that love will last.I enjoyed "First Comes Marriage" so much, I was just hoping for an equal read. But Mary Balogh gave me more than that with "Then Comes Seduction". Now I just have to wait another month to get the next book in this series, "At Last Comes Love", Margaret's story. A whole month!
