About this audiobook

The NRSV first appeared in 1989 and has received the widest acclaim and broadest support from academics and church leaders of any modern English translation. Rooted in the past, but right for today, the NRSV continues the tradition of William Tyndale, the King James Version, the American Standard Version, and the Revised Standard Version. Equally important, it sets a new standard for the 21st Century. The NRSV stands out among the many translations because it is "as literal as possible" in adhering to the ancient texts and only "as free as necessary" to make the meaning clear in graceful, understandable English. It draws on newly available sources that increase our understanding of many previously obscure biblical passages. These sources include new-found manuscripts, the Dead Sea Scrolls, other texts, inscriptions, and archaeological finds from the ancient Near East, and new understandings of Greek and Hebrew grammar.

If you're going to insult this book you ought to read it at least once. Most of its cultured detractors are so ignorant of its contents that they should sit still and learn and not talk. I love the English Standard Version, a clear, readable translation that sticks close to the manuscripts. I like the footnotes, only the most important stuff included.

The English Standard Version manages to balance a very close, literal translation of the original text with excellent readability in modern English. This particular edition also includes a short list of verses to reference for specific needs, a description of "God's Plan to Save You," and both a 40-day introductory and one-year complete Bible reading plan.

Fantastic reading of the good book. Very enjoyable, and kept me coming back. Thought it would much longer to finish. Will give it another listen again soon to catch parts I missed.

Great version, and the calfskin leather is buttery soft.

The ESV is simply a minor reworking of the horribly apostate RSV, the Revised Standard Version. According to the publishers, only 5% to 10% of the words from the RSV were modified to produce the ESV, and many of those were changes of no substance, such as splitting compound words into two words or using "that" instead of "which" and so forth. Furthermore, the ESV is gender neutral even in places where the original Hebrew or Greek is not. If you love the words of God, steer clear of the ESV.

A great edition of a solid translation. Uses one column to give a regular book feel. The type is small but not too small. The Bible is only an inch and a half (est) thick, so it is a wonderful travel Bible as well as a study Bible. I enjoy it very much!

A very good translation (I prefer it to the NIV). The embossed leather cover is beautiful, too.

The 'gold' standard. The new pew bible for the church where I am pastor. I've been comparing the translation to the NIV and NAS as I work through the gospel of Mark... and I love it. Clear where the Greek is clear, tough to figure out where the greek is tough, paying lots of attention to the conjunctions and prepositions. And... easy to read.I love it.

I really like this bible. It is small enough to fit in a day pack, and it looks and feels wonderful. Some have complained that the type is too small. I have not found that to be the case. I suppose if you don't like small type, you wouldn't purchase this bible. The side note-taking space is nice.

Great translation, I enjoyed going through this version more than the NLT that I went through in college.

The best translation in English. This is also a beautiful edition of this Bible, in finest leather.

What can I say.... it's the Word of God. There should be 10 stars for this one.
