About this audiobook
The meeting place was carefully chosen: an abandoned church in rural Ireland just after dark. For Jonathan Quinn-a freelance operative and professional "cleaner"-the job was only to observe. If his cleanup skills were needed, it would mean things had gone horribly wrong. But an assassin hidden in a tree assured just that. And suddenly Quinn had four dead bodies to dispose of and one astounding clue-to a mystery that is about to spin wildly out of control.
Three jobs, no questions. That was the deal Quinn had struck with his client at the Office. Unfortunately for him, Ireland was just the first. Now Quinn, along with his colleague and girlfriend-the lethal Orlando-has a new assignment touched off by the killings in Ireland. Their quarry is a U.N. aide worker named Marion Dupuis who has suddenly disappeared from her assignment in war-torn Africa. When Quinn finally catches a glimpse of her, she quickly flees, frantic and scared. And not alone.
For Quinn the assignment has now changed. Find Marion Dupuis, and the child she is protecting, and keep them from harm. If it were only that easy.
Soon Quinn and Orlando find themselves in a bunker in the California hills, where Quinn will unearth a horrifying plot that is about to reach stage critical for a gathering of world leaders-and an act of terror more cunning, and more insidious, than anyone can guess.
Fast, smart, sleek, and stunning, Shadow of Betrayal is vintage Brett Battles: a gritty, gripping masterpiece of suspense, a thriller that makes the pulse pound-and stirs the heart as well.
From the Hardcover edition.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another Jonathan Quinn, the cleaner! A fast-pace, action packed read that made the pages fly. Espionage, murder, conspiracy and Quinn’s team! Recommended.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5May have rushed into publication a bit too quickly. That or a new proof reader is required!
"...except for the exception."
Ouch
And plot bits from past book (won't spoil anything)are brought up and reiterated and angst-ed over ad nauseum... OK, OK, we get it!!
I'm done w/this series. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am not really a fan of thrillers, so I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. Quite entertaining!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Quinn and his small but deadly crew of Nate, his protege, and Orlando, his lover as well as an assassin, follow Marion's trail from Montreal, to Washington, D.C., to New York and ultimately to the desert and coast of California. Along the way, old nemeses reappear and, as usual, politics in Washington get in the way. Who is stealing developmentally disabled children and why? What is that shadowy organization, LP, doing in the center of things? Who is playing and manipulating whom in this thriller that contains mysteries within mysteries? It all leads to a diabolically evil plot that many readers may find disturbing in its callousness. Suffice it to say that Quinn and Orlando are not people you want chasing you or seeking vengeance against you...yet they have become people that the reader will come to care for. I strongly recommend this novel as well as the entire series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have never read anything by Brett Battles before this book. I actually won this book from Goodreads and glad I did. I loved it. There are so many twists and turns to keep you guessing till the very end. I love the main character Quinn and his partner Nate they make a great team. I am going to look into the other books by Battles.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love the Quinn character. Will keep reading these; Orlando and Nate are really growing into their own. Imagine a "cleaner" with a conscience.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Battles and his character Jonathan Quinn are quickly becoming favorites of mine. Shadow of Betrayal was another solid entry in the series (though there were a few moments when I asked myself, 'Now why would they do that'). Normally, those sort of plotting issues weaken a story for me, but Battles manages to overcome any shortcomings with interesting characters and situations. Quinn and his companions are well-developed characters and their relationships feel 'real'. I highly recommend Battles' novels (but please read them in order).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jonathan Quinn has one more job to do for Peter, to repay a debt.Jonathan, his colleague and girlfriend Orlando and his protege Nick are asked to find out what terrorist plot is being planned and stop it.Marion Dupuis is a U.N. worker. She has been helping an orphanage with school supplies and food but learns from the director that rebel soldiers are coming for a 5 year old named Iris who had Down Syndrom. Marion finds that children with special needs have been disappearing from other countries so she takes Iris and goes into hiding. The trail goes to Montreal where the terrorists achieve their goal. Iris is to be a focal point in their plot.Quinn learns that Marion has been taken to California and he must rescue Marion and Iris and stop the terrorists. This is a wonderful story which unfolds like the skin of an onion. Battles keeps the action moving and the suspense keeps the reader at the edge of their seat.Battles tells us that he has been influenced by Alistair MacLean and Jack Higgins and it's easy to see that influence in Battles knack of dialogue, characterization and plotting.Don't miss this one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Every body's favorite cleaner, Jonathan Quinn is back in Shadow of Betrayal. Quinn wants to hang up his gun holster and retire with his girlfriend, the deadly but beautiful Orlando but before he can do that, his boss has another mission for Quinn. He wants Quinn to locate a United Nations aide worker named Marion Dupuis. She has gone mission from her post in Africa. This is a task that will require the help of Quin''s protege, Nate and girlfriend Orlando. Marion has enjoyed helping out at Roslyn's Place. A local orphanage. All of a sudden the soldiers there have become interested in a girl named Iris. Iris was born with down syndrome. This is the second time the soldiers have come paying a visit to Roslyn's Place looking for the girl. Marion doesn't know why the soldiers want Iris. All she knows is that she must protect her at all costs. Shadow of Betrayal is the third book in this Jonathan Quinn series. Quinn is not afraid to get dirty and let the bodies fall where they may. If you are looking for the ultimate action leading man then look no farther than Quinn. He always gets the job done. Quinn embodies the spirit of Bond, endurance of Jason Statham, and the attitude of Bourne. From the first moment I read The Deceived, I instantly became hooked on Jonathan Quinn and Brett Battles. Battles is a force to be reckoned with in the suspense/thriller world. Don't take my word for it. Pick up a copy of this book or the other two prior novels...The Cleaner or The Deceived today.
