About this audiobook

With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets:

Secrets from her mother:
I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents' kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.

Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world:
My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.

But come Monday morning, Emma's office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company's elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn't possibly get worse-Until they do.

I adored this one! Emma spills all her secrets to a stranger on a plane when she thinks they're about to die- then he turns out to be the millionaire head of the company she works for. The rest of the story is well paced and enjoyable. Emma was a very likable and easy to relate to character and I definitely found myself hoping things would work out for her. The writing is light and witty and the book is impossible to put down. It was a very fun read and definitely on par with Kinsella's Shopaholic books.

Rereading this one for the zillionth time. Maybe my favourite Sophie Kinsella book (either this one, the first Shopaholic or I've Got Your Number). Just such a good mix of heart, humour, romance and the sparkly bubbliness I've come to expect from her.

This book is cute and it made me laugh out loud. However, it is clear that contemporary just isn't my thing despite my love for the Traveling Pants Series.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I figured it would be an enjoyable fluff read that would occupy some down time. But, I it was very humorous and relatable. I found myself walking in Emma's shoes and rooting for her to find happiness. I enjoyed watching her character grow into a stronger woman and find herself along the way. Definitely passing this one along to others.

Emma is a likable heroine - basically good-hearted, not much good at saying what she really thinks from a mixture of not wanting to hurt others or being hurt herself. Through a fluke she ends up letting her guard down and discovering that a little frankness can do a world of good. Fun reading.

A hilarious read that's been hovering at the back of my mind since the last page. It's a pleasure to read time and again, and Sophie Kinsella is my go-to when I need something easy-going to cheer me up.

Emma is one disaster after another, always getting herself into sticky situations. And sometimes she can't help but lie. But doesn't that happen to us all? One little white lie and then suddenly you've spun a web and you're stuck in the middle.

Jack was a hate-love character for me. At first I didn't like him, in fact for most of the book I didn't like like. But by the end I thought he'd grown as a character and changed delightfully for the better.

Strictly speaking, I ought to give this book three stars because it was everything I thought it would be: fluffy hokum *full* of exclamation marks and wafer-thin characterisation. But, it did the job. I paid just over a quid for it and I got just over a quids worth of value. Sophie Kinsella is great at what she does: entertaining well enough for me to want to punch her manic pixie girl MC in the throat without wanting the throw the book across the room. It's not something great and brilliant, but if you are after something fluffy which isn't going to tax your brain, teach you anything, or deal with Big Issues, this does the job perfectly.

The thought of sharing all your secrets to a complete stranger seems enticing after I read the book. Its the feel good kind of book. The type that can be made into a movie.
But after reading few of Sophie Kinsella's books it just too monotonous. same kind of story line all over!

Listened to this audio while working, picking it because I didn't really have to pay attention to understand what was going on. It was rather silly and boring at the same time. Not exactly sure why it's not a harlequin.

Sophie Kinsella has the "summer read" genre nailed. I giggled repeatedly throughout this book. Is it predictable? Of course. Is it ridiculous? Of course. Worth reading for a laugh? Of course. :)

Several people recommended Sophie Kinsella's book, basically because of her sense of humor. I won't deny that this book does have funny parts without really needing to try too hard. When I picked this book for my weekly reading, I had relatively high expectations for it and when I started to read, I really WANTED to like this book. But alas, it is so wrong in several aspects that, at a certain point, I actually felt offended.
First of all, if you're not into romantic comedies that involve a regular everyday girl and a millionaire, handsome, powerful guy, this book is not for you and gods hear my laments, it was DEFINITELY not for me. I'm not the biggest fan of the archetype "rich, handsome, perfect guy with a dark secret" because I find it very tiring and not fun to follow up with. It feels... very unrealistic.
Second, if you're not into stories with your "regular, everyday, compulsive liar girl", this book is also not for you and I really wish I knew it beforehand that the main character was going to be like this. I personally don't care about characters who don't have a strong personality, their own voice and their own opinions. There are people and characters like that and I understand that some people enjoy this kind of thing. I HATE it.
So, join two character archetypes that I strongly dislike and put them in a mundane situation full of venomous people and you're giving me the recipe for disaster.
The situations the main character Emma Corrigan has to face would be easily solved if she had more attitude, and when a story anchors on a character's weakness and her lack of will to actually do something to solve the problems, I have a really hard time enjoying it. This gets aggravated when said character does not realize that they have a problem and take no initiative to change the situation.
Another thing that bothered me quite a bit during this book: NO means NO. When a person wants to say yes, THEY SAY YES. And in this book, EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER simply does not know how to take NO for an answer, which is bad enough without a weak protagonist.
I really disliked this book and if Kinsella's other books follow the same trend, I don't intend to pick up any of them. But hey, if you enjoy chick-lits, you might enjoy this book.

Cute, as Kinsella's books always are, but not as enjoyable to me as the Shopaholic series. I can't really put my finger on why. Lissie is a more likeable heroine. Her situation is very readable. I DID like the book. It just wasn't as wonderful as I expect a Kinsella book to be. I'm sure it's just me

I absolutely loved this story of a woman who unexpectedly spills all her closest secrets to a man on a plane who then turns out to be the new uber-boss - but to tell the truth you can't really go wrong with a Kinsella, can you? It's an utterly charming page-turner, and it was wonderful to see the main character blossom and grow through the quirky challenges she has to face. A delightful and very amusing page-turner all round.

Sophie Kinsella's best book in my opinion. I feel her Shopaholic character is selfish and a doormat.

From the 3-4 Kinsella novels I've read, this may be the strongest.

Once I got over some inaccuracies about airport & airline procedures in Chapter 1, the rest was credible and thoroughly enjoyable (in contrast to the more recent Wedding Night, which, frankly, stretched belief). A couple of scenes, notably the picnic at which Emma's family show up, had me laughing aloud. Kinsella did a truly thorough job of creating Emma's character and I did like the minor role of her grandfather, too. The underlying theme of the dangers of sharing both too much or too little of ourselves with others was nicely done.

One request of the author: a spin-off story starring Jemima, who is a hilarious character, obsessed with getting a rock on her finger and following her mother's questionable methods, would be terrific. Lots of room for character growth here ;)

This was a fun little fluff read. It was cute, entertaining, and pretty enjoyable. If you enjoy romance novels by Julia Quinn, or the other Sophie Kinsella books (like the Shopaholic series), then you should enjoy this. If you prefer a meatier plot or more developed characters, this probably isn't the book for you. It's definitely romance-story fare, with one-dimensional characters (ditzy main character with a heart of gold who means well but constantly screws up; stoic, silent, mysterious love interest who is changed by his contact with fun-loving ditz; intelligent, "together" best friend of ditz who is always supportive and never catty despite her clearly more successful situation; and another friend who is the epitome of a "mean girl") and a very predictable plot. To be 100% clear, this is a fluff read, something to pick up when you just want to be vaguely entertained and amused. Nothing thought-provoking here.

Sometimes, you just want a fun, uncomplicated book that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. No deep messages about life, no crazy suspenseful action, just pure, good fun. Can You Keep a Secret? is that book. Despite it's length, it's a fast read. I finished it in a day and practically laughed the whole way through. Emma's voice is perfect and I felt like I were listening to a klutz of a best friend spilling all her secrets and worries. There are some hilarious moments, especially when Emma realizes that the guy she told all her secrets too is actually the CEO of the company she works for. And he's so funny about it! Jack doesn't say straight out that he knows Emma, but he remembers everything she said on the plane and makes a point to subtly let her know that he remembers. I felt both embarrassed for Emma and was laughing so hard from the situation that I got crazy looks from people around me. (Whatever, it was great!)What makes this book awesome is that Kinsella has no problem with making Emma imperfect. She doesn't know a lot about the business she works in, tries too hard, and has quite a few anxiety issues. But she's fun, loving, and puts all her effort and heart into the things she undertakes, which makes her completely loveable. The same holds true for all her characters -- they have their flaws, and they have their good points. Sometimes it evens out, sometimes it doesn't. I felt like I was reading about real people, which was nice. There were a few times where I had some "yeah, right, like that would happen" moments, but nothing big enough to really detract from my enjoyment. Besides, I took this book as something fun and not too serious, and really loved approaching it that way.Overall, I think most women and even some men would enjoy this novel. It's about being honest with yourself, opening up to new experiences and relationships, and not taking life too seriously. If you want something you can just relax with and have a good laugh, pick up this book. It's the perfect summer read.

This is chick lit but there's a moral to the story. Woman, with a little too much to drink on turbulent flight, spills all her most private thoughts and secrets to man sitting next to her. Couple of days later she learns that he's her new boss. There is a moral to the story . . . . are your secrets more important than someone else's.

Now this is fun. Destructive, but fun. Like anything pretty, it's painful; it pricks. But at least it's funny. And at least it all turned out. It's a little crazy though. But they're just girls, you know. (9/10)

This book originally intruigied me, because of the title who doesnt want to read about someone elses life and secrets? I didnt want to put the book down, when the main character Emma is on a plane. She was trying very hard to get promoted, but ended up messing up. Emma met a guy named Jack on the air plane. They thought they were going to die while on the plane so she freaked out and blurted out all of her secrets to a complete stranger. The next week she came into work to find out that Jack was the owner of the company she worked at. She was in complete shock and utterly embrassed. They ended up hitting it off and all was going great until he told the whole world her secrets. This book was great and so real life. Emma has flaws and secrets just like anyone else. It shows were human and that fairy tales were the prince takes you home to his castle arent true. You will always have peoplel ike Artemis, Emmas nasty and rude co-worker. That you almost killled her plant and her! You will tell your boyfriends your a size four but really your a size 8. No matter who you are you have secrets. How would you feel if all your secrets were all poured out to the world/ You may not think your a very important person. But this book shows, your secrets are bigger and more important, than you think. You dont have to be famous to be important just a person.

I LOVED this book! This is definitely one of Sophie Kinsella's best works, right up there with The Undomestic Goddess. Chances are that if you are a fan of her works you have already read this novel, but if not, put it at the top of your list. It is a really quick read and well worth your time!

I started this book and thought "I'll scan this one, it isn't too interesting" and then, smack, right in the head, the author throws out hilarious items that kept me turning page after page, until I finished the book.. At 1AM! The amusing way the lies that the main character, Emma, told on a plane trip to a total stranger, come back to haunt her. And to amuse the reader. What are the lies about? Truth, ironically, in the end. Emma hates to live lies, so her eventual truths free everyone, and land her a romance that is quality, not needy or expected. Emma is someone I would love to have as a friend, so when I put the book down, I was sad that no one in my life has such a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a lot of secrets that are shared with me. I will keep looking for an Emma in my life, and in the meantime, try to be an Emma to others. An unforgettable character and one I hope the author, Sophie Kinsella of Confessions of a Shopaholic, continues to use in all of her future novels. Run, don't walk, to get this book, and then share it with your favorite friend.

This is one of the best novel that i've read.Written by infamous and my favorite writer that has published bestselling Shopaholic series, Sophie Kinsella, this book really captured my mind since it views the real life of many women nowadays.if im not mistaken, i've read this book about 12 times. It is a story about young woman, Emma Corrigan who just like us who has some secrets that we don't want other people to know...however, one day she accidentally slip the secrets to just the wrong guy, her new boss.the story quite happening since it shows how crazy life could be and how things can be so complicated when we become so desperate.
